Cowboys Interest In Simms Increasing...

I'd rather have a guy (Johnson) who won a ring 6 years ago lead us (even at 40) than his 3rd string back up in Simms (in TB) who has been hurt for quite a while with only small sparks of success at the QB position.

Simms cannot and would not lead us to a Superbowl... Johnson might be able to do that.

While Johnson isn't my first choice, Simms is by no means a worthy backup on a team that is a supposed favorite to make and/or win the Superbowl.

Simms was starting to play well. I'm a UT fan, was highly critical of him at UT. (Was at the B12 Championship game at Texas Stadium vs Colorado that he lost). Didn't think he'd have a shot in the NFL. But he was showing to be at least an adequate player. Definitely rather have him as backup than Johnson.

well i think he rooted for us when Parcells was here...

Yeah, 'ole Phil actually has always been pretty happy to speak good things about us anyway. Maybe that's why I've always kind of liked him.

If Romo goes down we are screwed either way so I'll take the vet any day.
Wrong. We aren't screwed. This team is talented enough to win with a backup like Simms. If you have Johnson in there teams are gonna stack the box because they know Johnson can't throw. Simms can keep it going until Romo got back. Johnson I don't feel could do that.

I can bet the guys that want Simms are UT fans. Simms is one of the most overrated players coming out of school. If it wasn't for his daddy, Simms JR would even be talking about him. He was a good college player that will not amount to much in the NFL.
Not a UT fan. I can't stand when people assume.

Oh boy this is laughable. Brad Johnson could lead us to a Superbowl.:laugh1: At 40? You probably said the same things about Bledsoe(although he wasn't quite 40) and Testaverde. Were you not watching the Commanders game and other games when Johnson came in last year. He couldn't move the team down the field. If Romo is out for a month, I would feel very comfortable knowing the backup is first and foremost a lot younger, secondly can throw the deep ball and not short little dump passes, and thirdly is hungry and wants to prove that he can still play quarterback.

Actually... I didn't say I liked Johnson as the backup... I said I liked him in the Superbowl if Romo goes down over an inexperienced and unproven Chris Simms.

Please show me some hard number that shows Simms has any track record of success? Oh yeah, there is no such record. Emotional attachment to a former UT QB won't get us that ring.

In 19 games, Simms has thrown 12 TDs and 17 INT... where is your confidence in him coming from might I ask?

And don't throw Johnson numbers at me, because I already said he's not my first choice... he's just a safer bet than Simms.

'Actually... I didn't say I liked Johnson as the backup... I said I liked him in the Superbowl if Romo goes down over an inexperienced and unproven Chris Simms.'

I still like Simms, Johnson is too old and can't get it done anymore.

'Emotional attachment to a former UT QB won't get us that ring.'

Again you are assuming. I am not a UT fan. Never have been, never will.

'Please show me some hard number that shows Simms has any track record of success?'
I already did earlier in this thread. Simms has played a total of 19 games. In his one semi-full season in 05, he had a QB rating of 81.4, 61% completion, 10 TD's, 7 ints., finished 7-4. He can play the position. I don't like Johnson as a backup or to get to the SUperbowl. Not at that age and the way he didn't perform in mopup duty last year.

'In 19 games, Simms has thrown 12 TDs and 17 INT... where is your confidence in him coming from might I ask?'
I thought I had already answered the question in bold in my previous post but here it is again:
'I would feel very comfortable knowing the backup is first and foremost a lot younger, secondly can throw the deep ball and not short little dump passes, and thirdly is hungry and wants to prove that he can still play quarterback.'

Ok Tovya. Someone posted that the season he went down, Simms had something like 10 td's, 7 int's, and a 61% completion percentage I believe, in a decent amount of games. That ain't bad. Would he have held up the production in a full season, I don't know. But he was still young and starting to look pretty good. If he can shake off rust he'd be a heck of a backup, he was on his way to becoming at least a decent starter.
