HOUSTON, TX - AUGUST 15: Jarryd Hayne #38 of the San Francisco 49ers breaks the tackle attempt of Rahim Moore #26 of the Houston Texans in the first half at Reliant Arena at Reliant Park on August 15, 2015 inAaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports the 49ers have signed Hayne to a practice squad deal.

In what's becoming a weekly tradition, the Cowboys lost again Sunday.

They're sitting at 2-5 with no sense of momentum and a feeling sense of despair.

The season isn't lost, not in the dreadful NFC East, but the team is ailing.

Jerry Jones has shown no reluctance in bringing in colorful, bizarre or — especially this season — vile characters before, so signing a former Australian rugby legend turned NFL hopeful might not be such an outlandish proposition.

The San Francisco 49ers cut Jarryd Hayne Saturday — who retired from a dominant professional rugby career at age 27 to pursue a new one in the NFL — after the Aussie import made little impact in six games.

A running back and return specialist, Hayne went unclaimed through the NFL's waiver wire system, but his NFL story isn't done just yet.

Hayne could still return to the 49ers, but the team just signed former Browns running back Shaun Draughn today, and reports indicate that he's caught Jones' eye.

The Cowboys kick return unit has been abysmal, particularly Cole Beasley, and a season-ending injury to running back Lance Dunbar coupled with the troubling disappearance of Joseph Randle could push Dallas to make a move.

Hayne had a strong preseason, recording 175 rushing yards on 25 carries, but as they tend to, those preseason numbers didn't translate to regular-season production.

Still, Hayne is an intriguing prospect with a sizable, fanatical following in Australia. That might scare away plenty of teams, but these are the Cowboys; if anything, that makes him an even more viable prospect.

Have him return punts. Better than what we're doing now. We're not getting much out of Beasley at the punt position and he may very well get knocked out of the game like Dunbar. I wouldn't mind seeing Hayne in the running game as well, and we may need him given the fact that we don't know what's going to happen with Randle and with the amount of carries McFadden is getting, he could be injured in a few games.

This, Beasely is not getting it done in punt , he muffed even once with game on line...

Hayne has better hands and at least a load to tackle .( being tough rugby star)

The Cowboys went from having one of the best RBs in the NFL that fit their system like a glove to starting retreads, has-beens and nobodys. While our FO can't be blamed for not resigning Murray at the price Philthy paid, their plan to replace him is all on them.

No argument.

But this is more about returns than the RB position

Eh. McFadden, if he stays healthy, is doing a good job. Honestly, there are times when he reminds me of Murray a bit these last couple of games with how hard he's running. I have no problem with McFadden.

However, as I said, "if he stays healthy". His history says he probably won't so you need to be constantly kicking the tires and doing your due diligence. It's obvious that CMike isn't someone they have a lot of trust in and until Randle is back, it can't hurt to bring in some warm bodies.

McFadden has done a more than adequate job since being the starter. Yeah Dallas should've re-signed Murray, but the backs aren't why we are losing. We've gotten horrible, horrible play from these bum backup quarterbacks.

Actually one of the biggest complaints i've heard about Hayne is his ability to not be able to hold on to the ball.
