Very bad against the run, which he was he got benched for Trevaython (guy who picked Romo to seal the game)

As a depth guy though, how can you go wrong? He's played all three spots, is great for ST's, and has a lot of experience. I'm not saying that we need to break the bank on him, but he's the kind of guy you need on the team, a guy who's good at a lot of things, but not great at anything.

I would agree with that if Carter showed in TC that he's likely to work out at WLB. Unfortunately, as far as filling in for Sean Lee in the event he's injured again, Woodyard isn't the ideal candidate to fill that role very well. He was released from Denver because he was miscast at that MLB position. He's 6-0 and 233, not particularly well-suited there. On the plus side, his coverage is quite good.

The Cowboys (tampa) defense doesn't really have a size limitation. They even have said that the strong side is more a dumping ground for guys that didn't win the other two roles.

Seems like many are already onboard with signing this player. If the Cowboys do sign him and he gets hurt or sucks, I hope those aren't the same people who will bad-mouth Jerry Jones for signing him. I hear Mickey Spagnola in the background asking "if he is so good, why is he available?' Especially with the fact that the Broncos have a lot more cap room than the Cowboys.

I don't know much about the player. I can't recall watching him play. It sounds like it would be a nice pickup.

I'd bet my bottom dollar that many of the same people on-board with the signing would slam Jerry if it doesn't end up working out. It's what the Captain Hindsights do.

Proof: see the thread about Stephen Jones' bio on dallascowboys.com.

Perhaps so but the reputation Woodyard earned in Denver is that he's ideally suited to play the WLB position where he was simply loved by the fans in Denver. I'm of the opinion that Carter might be the better choice to play strongside than Woodyard, who is far more adept at pass coverage than anything that Carter has ever demonstrated thus far.

The Cowboys didn't run the Tampa 2 last year.

I don't think this is someone who is going to start over Carter -- this is someone who we want to fill a spot if there is an injury. I believe our LB is Carter - Lee - Wilber with Holloman pushing for PT. Given the injury issues we've seen you like a guy like Woodyard as an extra part - also, if he signs for less than Durant, we might shave the 1.25 base that JD is getting ... or we might be using this as leverage to get JD to cut his base

I'm sure if he signs its to compete for the wlb spot. Carter is certainly capable of playing at a high level. I think his problem has always been that he's a slow learner. I expect this year he will play really well.

Would be a great signing. Could play all 3 spots and shouldn't be expensive.

Guy had 117 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 2012... that's pretty phenomenal. He also had 3 FF's this season... 10 passes defensed over the last 2... and he'll be 28 years old in July (neither a pro nor a con). Oh and his intangibles are at a team captain level. He's a solid starting LB in my opinion.

That's 3 times as many tackles as our 16 million dollar DE/OLB And he had 5.5 sacks in 2012? 0.5 behind #94
Can we get him for under 12 mil?

Byrd wants $9M/yr and was hurt last year(IIRC). That is why he is available. Does he suck? Probably not. Is he worth $9M/yr. No way.

LB Woodyard? So, why is Denver not interested in signing him even though they have the money? It is a good question. It needs to be asked.

9 MILLION?????

I'd be on board with Woodyard. He'a a solid linebacker. Upgrade over guys like Durant and Sims
