Team is kinda poised to make a run. What you have to play when losing Romo makes all the difference in such an event. Schaub has a ton of starting experience (and some pretty damn good years, too). He may have lost it... but I'd take him over a never-seen-the-field guy in a pinch (in a Super Bowl push season). Weeden is NOT a back-up plan. A rookie isn't either.

The team is kind of poised to make a run, and here's the key, with Romo. If he goes down, the season is over as far is trying to make said run.

Just about any decent backup can manage a game or two. If we lose tony for more than that then the season is done. I agree we need to upgrade Weedon but Shaub?

This is for the backup QB position people. Who do you expect to back up Tony Romo? Tom Brady?

Its just that you would like to have a chance to atleast compete for a game or two if your starter goes down.

If Romo goes down, the only thing we will be competing for with Weeden or Schuab is a higher draft pick............auto loss with either, even if we are playing the Bucs.

Why don't fans understand that there are 12-15 legitimate NFL quarterbacks in the world at any given time?

Who's the backup for Peyton Manning? Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco, Ben Roethlisberger?

NOBODY HAS A GOOD BACKUP. PERIOD. That's why they're backups.

We lost to Matt Flynn (Aaron Roger's backup) and almost lost to Austin Davis (Sam Bradford backup at the time).

We sure make backup QBs look like Joe Montana everytime we play one.

I just think back to last season and our game against the Cardinals. Weeden couldn't keep them from stacking the box against Murray. If we still had Orton we win the Arizona game and home field advantage through the playoffs. If the back up has to play an extended amount of games then yes we are screwed, but we need an experienced back up to get us through a couple of games. It's the reason we have paid so much for a back up QB the last 4 or 5 seasons.

I think they understand it. It just makes them nervous, so they complain about it and say it's the team that's stupid.

I also think fans are happier with a developmental guy potentially on the upswing back there. They don't like old guys or washouts. If Vaughan were to edge out Weeden in camp, for example, that sits better with people than having a CLE cast-off who's older and, behind him, a kid who can't unseat the cast off.

Schaubs at least won a few games, and ron jaworrski had him rated higher than tony one year. And more importantly someone on here said we should trade tony for him a couple years ago

That's the end of this thread for sure now.

Well apparently I'm about to be a 7th Round pick (I'm definitely worth a late 5th, although I'm positioning myself to hopefully be an UDFA so I can score that signing bonus...) and I have been working out to prepare for the season: According to my "agent" (Mr Rosen is probably dusting off our contract as we speak and I've been pounding drinks unmercifully for days, hard at "work" so maybe he's correct... I do funny things sometimes).
Gettin' that arm ready... Ignoring the carpal tunnel and my current age of 40 years- I think I can give this team some productive years holding that clipboard for that undrafted guy from Where-The-Heck U. Shoot... I went to UCLA!
I'm ready to be a fan favorite! I can clipboard with the best of 'em! I better get my pump up speech to the OL prepared so they can keep Mr. WTH U guy upright... won't be pretty if they don't.
