Damed if you do, damned if you don't. In the first scenario, Garrett would be crucified for playing "not to lose". In the second, Romo would be crucified for "playing to win". I have a much easier time with the second than the first.

There's a reason these guys are on the field making a living, and message board posters are...message board posters.
Thanks. That pass wasn't all that great. Unless a defender was coming underneath and he had to throw it a little low. Oh well. anytime Tony can get a "good pass" from some of these people ... I'll take it.

No he could have put up higher and got Dez wiped out with the man coming directly at him. He put in a good spot to get a big 1st down and did not hang is WR out to dry

The fact is, this is all Romo is capable of right now. He can't get the ball downfield, and he's very reluctant to move in the pocket.

The question remaining is if Romo will strengthen and return to form, or if this is the Romo we see from now to the end of his career.

He didnt have to throw it downfield, the running game was dominating. If he had and threw a pic the realists would talk about his horrible decision or the horrible play calling. Either way, you win

No bigger fan of Romo than me. But he's far from being his normal self right now. He hasn't thrown a good deep ball since camp started.

No one is talking about Andrew Luck and his coaches throwing an INT on third down when running it would have given them a 10 point lead with 4 minutes left in the game.

ok, cool. i just attribute some of those low/off throws to being worried about ints

Sorry, but who's complaining that Romo should throw more? I'm not getting what Fisher is trying to complain about.

Nobody. People are concerned he looked as bad as he has at any point in his career with the team, but I haven't seen a single request to throw more.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

I see no need for any misguided, sanctimonious, chastising coming from Fisher.

In a dink-and-dunk way, I agree.

He made some very strong throws in the second half - like the 17-yarder to Dez on a 3rd and 15 situation. Rolling right and throwing on the run (try torquing your back like that while running), and the 11-yarder to Beasley. Both of those passes had plenty of mustard on them.

There's medical precedence for this. Troy Aikman used to say that his back was just fine after his surgeries, but the muscle tissue in his back was always stiff and would sometimes take an entire half to loosen up enough to feel comfortable. The spine was repaired, but the muscles had been traumatized by the surgical procedure.

All I know is if this is the Romo we will see from now until the end of his career, we got fleeced at the bargaining table. Watching him feign at the first sight of pressure and fall to the ground makes me want to poke my eyeballs out.

Everyone will love the run first, Romo bus driver stuff until we are facing 3rd and 6 with a minute to go and a four point lead; we run the ball into a cloud of dust for two yards, punt and an opposing QB goes straight down the field and we lose, a la New England 2011. Then it will all be about how Garrett is afraid to allow Romo to throw it with the game on the line, we paying 100 million for a bus driver who can't be trusted to seal the game, etc. etc.

Exactly right. It's fan nonsense.

There's no way that is sustainable for a full season. It's nice to be able to do it, but you can't rely on it. Especially with no defense. No offense to Rod...err..Mr. Marinelli.

It absolutely is sustainable for a full season. The 9ers have ridden this philosophy to three straight NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl appearance and the Seahawks rode it all the way to a World Championship. Kap and Wilson are good QBs but they are GREAT QBs when their run game is dominant and they only have to be clutch for 3-4 plays per game. Ditto for their defenses. Both squads have fantastic defensive personnel. They are absolutely dominant when their respective offenses control the ball for 35-40 minutes a game because they are also well rested while watching their ball controlled running game demoralize the opposition. I also think that same philosophy had a lot to do with some of the defensive success the Cowboys had this past weekend. They weren't gasping for breath or mentally fatigued from being out on the field for 40 minutes of a football game.

Romo has had his gaffes but his career has been much more clutch than blunder than most fans will ever give him credit for. Fans are concerned about Romo's ability due to the back condition. I get it. I still have confidence the guy can get it done when needed if he doesn't have to carry the whole thing on is shoulders 90% of the time. He's still "got it" as far as I'm concerned. He just doesn't need to do it for 40-45 times a game which is refreshing to both Romo and the fans. The whole concept is new to Romo. He'll find his stride and be just fine, IMHO.

The 49ers and Seahawks had great defenses.

They also had running QBs to supplement the traditional running game and a RB that could carry a full load.

The Cowboys aren't built that way. They can not consistently win games rushing 40 times while Romo throws for a buck seventy. It's not happening. You'll see that when we play against real QBs and as the wear and tear of the season grinds on Murray.

Interesting to know Jerry is basking in the Romo balance...the only reason Dallas is able to be so run heavy is because of the very pick at #16 that Jerry said would get you 8-8.
