NFL draft winners, losers: Jets grab a steal, Cowboys whiff

LOSERS

Players with character questions: The same couldn't be said for Nebraska DE Randy Gregory, LSU OL La'el Collins and Oklahoma WR Dorial Green Beckham, all players with obvious first-round ability but each saddled with red flags of the first order.

Chip Kelly: Rumors of his pursuit of Mariota hit overdrive Thursday evening with the Eagles coach offering everything he had plus the Liberty Bell and the Rocky statue. No dice.

Tight ends: The next one picked will be the first one of 2015.

Cowboys: CB Byron Jones may become a fine player. He won't sack any quarterbacks, nor will he run for 100-plus yards on a weekly basis.

And if we took a DE or a RB in the first, this guy would have said the Cowboys don't have anyone who can cover.

This pick will be supported by most of the analysts.

All I'll say in defense of the pick is he is not a workout warrior. That's a guy who didn't really stand out on the field, then he blows up during workouts. Jones was more of a case of people paying more attention to the UConn product after the big combine performance.

I said before the draft that if we must take one at 27, this is the guy for me. So I'm trying to accept it that way but it still feels like a kiss on the lips from your Grandmother.

Unless we're moving him to FS. Stat.

Progress. :)

Without overreacting I can tell you that I was disappointed with the pick. Love the position, but of the 4 top corners, he was my least favorite. Personally, I like guys that are renowned for the way they play football, not how far they can jump. I am left wondering that if this guy didn't test to well, would he even been given first or even second round consideration? Im also not the biggest on guys that are "flexible" and can play multiple position. Give me the sure thing stud corner that has played the position all his life or the stud safety. Not a guy that has the flexibility to do both. Thats just me. If they wanted safety, the highest ranked one was still on the board.

I can say personally I was following everything and to me Malcolm Brown fell right into our laps. Penetrating, highly rated DT. Definitely a need. That pick pretty much would have solidified our line for the next 5 or 6 years. I wanted Brown, Dupree, Shane Ray, Gregory, in that order with about 5 picks to go in front of us. Brown and Gregory were both there. We didnt pick either. And the Patriots taking Brown justified my Brown fetish. Amazing to me how the Patriots pick last nearly every year and they always get a stud.

Now I'm not going to get too picky here because we needed a corner and we went defense. At least we didnt take a RB in the first round. But I thought we missed out on the pick. Time will tell on Byron Jones. But to me he appears to be a workout warrior project type. Not to my liking for the first round.

I feel, Dallas just drafted, a cross between Daniel Manning and Peanut Tillman.

So is he going to be a safety or CB? He has played 2 years as both

That reasoning is ridiculous. DL, RB and DB were all needs and we addressed one in the first round with a good value pick. Sorry, we couldn't address all three with one pick.

People that hate this pick are either stupid or just not paying attention. We could've been facing starting the season with a total ofONE starting quality CB (Scandrick) if Carr is cut or Claiborne isn't ready to go (not that he's startig quality anyway). We did not reach for Jones. We took him where he was projected and his was the position of greatest need by far. Yes, I wat one or two DL,but we took the best player for us.

This thread is great. It summarizes why I really don't watch/listen/read to "experts" no matter what, draft, pre-season, reg. season, post-season....you name it....

The only reason I tune in is when I expect something like SAS wearing a Cowboys hat or something comic like that....
