Cowboys looking at ILB / CB in the 1st round

not sure if anybody saw this, and i dont know how it'll affect his stock but.....

4:00 PM): Tide LB discloses non-football illness… Star Alabama MLB Rolando McClain stunned the pro scouting fraternity when he disclosed after he became ill during the Tide’s pro day today that he has had Crohn's Disease, an inflammatory intestinal condition, since his freshman year in high school. McClain reportedly treats the condition with medication and obviously has been able to play with it a very high level to date, however, its certain to be a major red flag for pro teams heading into the 2010 draft at which McClain had been rated as a top 10-15 prospect. McClain also indicated that he has been dealing with a hamstring issue since October, but still ran well enough at today's on-campus workout, posting unofficial 40 times of 4.71 and 4.74

Doesnt jax QB David Gerrard also have this?

So a player having chronic diarrhea is a "stunning" development that will raise "major red flags"?

Gotta love the offseason.

I would find it somewhat humorous if Dallas took Kyle Wilson.

Scandrick got all the attention at CB for Boise State until Wilson arrived. Then it became apparent that Wilson was the much better player.

So Scandrick jumped for the NFL early.

Don't overlook the position Wilson played in the Fiesta Bowl; more of a safety than a corner in the special defense BSU cooked up for TCU.

Kyle Wilson should be, at least, a very solid NFL player. And he was a team leader at BSU.

Are they intent on turning Orlando Scandrick into the next Bob Sanders again? :laugh2:

Might as well. He couldn't play the nickel worth a crap last year.

I think it is more than that though. If I remember correctly, garrard had like 10 feet of intestines removed and had some serious recovery time involved.

Funny. It is pretty serious though.

It's treatable but Crohn's can be fatal. It's very nasty stuff and usually eventually leads to cancer of the esophagas and sometimes the colon as well.

according to theredzone.org, mcclain had to cut his workout short due to he was feeling ill. clearly, it's something he's going to have to deal with in the pros.

Again, that's not a deal-breaker for me. How many of last season's draft picks started? Would you rather wait until you had to draft a rookie and put them in the starting lineup not because you wanted to, but because you had to? I'd rather be prepared.

That's why I'm suggesting to you that you should NOT look for the way YOU want them to go, but for the way THEY might go.

If it was up to me, unless Iupati or Wilson falls to that #27, I'm moving down the road. I'd attempt to at least get 2 second round draft choices or, at worst, an early 2nd and 3rd, for that stop. I think this draft is deep enough where we can get enough talented projects to stash and develop. But that's me, not the Cowboys.

One way the Cowboys might logically look at this draft is the way I mentioned before, where if Wilson falls and Iupati is gone, take him since he's going to produce faster than any OT taken on that spot and would probably be a more talented player than any tackle available at that spot anyways.

The point is that there are many different directions this team can go because of the roster they have. THey're not tied down because of an immidiate need and that's a good thing.

McClains not going top 15 now.

I don't think he was going top 15 anyway. Not a good enough athlete and reportedly not great at taking on and shedding blocks.

So Bradie and Carpenter are in the last years of their deals, and Brookings could fall off the cliff at any moment. Yeah, I would say ILB is about as pressing a need as there is when you're looking at replacing all three of your best ILBs in the face. I like Bradie, but I would rather not sign him up to a long term deal for the downside of his career.

If this is the case, trade out.

Better yet, pull a miracle and go get Eric Berry.

Terence Newman has a whole lot left in the tank, and he had a good, solid year. He recovered nicely after that Giants game. Brandon Marshall pulled Newman's jersey and pulled him backwards. Newman was on him for just about the entire game and that is the only play that punk made and he had to cheat to get it. Newman couldn't time his jump at the end, because he had to play catchup after Marshall pulled his jersey and pulled him backwards. Where is Steve Smith? Pick six! Gotcha again! GAME!

Go ahead, draft a CB and watch him eat the pine, behind two Pro Bowl players.

This team better get some offensive linemen and a safety, period. Another WR would be nice.

What happened to DeSean Jackson this year?

Newman shut him down!

Not 1

Not 2

BUt

3 Bloody Times

Revenge is sweet.

I can't wait for that little green troll to line up against # 41 next year, because he will get shut down again and again and (again; if necessary).

I have to say drafting a CB at 27 is just about as stupid as bringing Greg Ellis back.

Newman has gone to the Pro Bowl twice under Phillips, and you don't beat the Eagles three times without him. The Steve Smith pick six helped give you 11 wins, and put you into a tie breaker. We were about to lose to the bloody
Panthers at home, for crying out loud.

I'd look for Pouncy.

Broadus discusses it in the very top podcast.

Everyone wants safety, OT, or WR but it sounds like we may be looking at CB / ILB instead.

I wouldnt be shocked, might be a little surprised but definitely not shocked. Other than QB, TE and RB (and Kicker/Punter) I dont think its totally out of the question that we draft any position.

No, he lost the competition with Jenkins to start and it took the wind out of his sails. He was mediocre up until the second half and his improved play was a big reason why our defense started to become so dominant at the end.

All we need is a safety that can make plays on the ball out of the deep zone --something which Hamlin is incapable of doing-- and our defense is out of this world. We cannot lose sight of that.

C'mon, that's not fair. You know teams are afraid of testing him!

Broadus also threw out the name Bryan Bulaga as a possible draft canidate.

Now who on earth wouldn't want Bulaga over Gaither? lol

No way Bulaga falls to us.

No way.

Whoever suggested that is an idiot.
