Cowboys love the shotgun formation under Schotty

Yep, went from Romo to Dak So you don't have to go directly to the bottom of the barrel? Why do you keep saying the option is Dak or Drew Henson then?
I literally said it was Dak, Romo and the other 12 guys I named. You just chose to focus on Dak.

I hate that we try to run the ball in shotgun formation so often.

In Week 1 of the 2026 season against the New York Giants, the Dallas Cowboys broke down as follows:

  • Shotgun: 71.2%
  • Under Center: 28.8%

Week 1 Context

  • Shotgun Heavy: Dallas remained in the upper tier of shotgun usage in Week 1, ranking among the top 10 most shotgun-heavy offenses in the league.
  • League Contrast: While the league average shifted back toward under-center plays in Week 1 (42.5%), Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense continued to align predominantly in the shotgun.
How often does dak play under center in nfl career?

It's because Dak wants it that way.

People always underestimate how much sway he has.

They do shotgun not because of Schotty but because of Dak. Unfortunately this loses play action advantage for us
Under center play action can be huge but the QB has to look away and then be able to read the defense quickly when he turns back and Dak cant process fast enough to do this
This is on Dak not Schotty
Of course both are here not to win a SB but to make money so they dont care

We don’t use shotgun because of either one of them. We use it because oline is suspect

We’ve always been in shotgun with him even when the line was good
I don’t remember being in shotgun last year as much but maybe I’m remembering wrong

Regardless, even last year the oline wasn’t that good, especially the OTs.

I just hope there's a quarterback available next year with our top 3 pick.

THE GARRET playbook lives on in Dallas!!! Swore they talked about having Dak under center more
OK show me last year this was just week one there's a lot of things in week one we can overreact to like the defense but then again after I'm looking at all the games from week one look at the scores look at last night's scores there's something that's seems to be a trend The NFL can't play defense in the first two weeks of the NFL..

would be An overreaction as well because we've seen a small sample size

First of all show me the league trend in the league average and stop acting like he loves it because of game one there are 17 games there's a different game plan for every week, Show me last year's overall 17 games and which Brian Schottenheimer was shotgun and under center and then compared to the rest of the league his last I check this has been the NFL offenses they lean heavy on the shotgun they took it from college to make it easier on a lot of the quarterbacks that came from college to transition...

That's the truth but don't just bring in the Cowboys week one stats for shotgun versus under center without the rest of the league and then do last year so we have a good idea of what he likes to run over 17 game average with different game plans you see where this goes sideways are we really nitpicking the offense again when the defensive special teams are absolutely horrible and now you're trying to find problems when they scored on both of their second half touchdowns they had no problem whether they were under center or not their defense was horrible and it is what it is..

But again don't bring in cherry pick stats show me how that compares to the rest of the league and if you're not willing to do that work then this post is an absolute dud...

Cowboys offense has no problem scoring or moving the football they were one of the best week 1 where we'd like to bring up the fact that Prescott's QBR was great that they move the ball second best in the league on 3rd down what do you want to go over all the positives from the offense and stop shifting to the cherry picking the part of our team that's actually good..
