Cowboys mailbag

Yup, especially one you lucked into and when your typical idea of a QB is Manziel lol.
But the hat trick is taking advantage of it when you luck into it,, we almost came close.
Daks rookie contract was critical to succeeding.
I know if I say more it will bring down the avalanche,, Im just speaking to you and the term was critical, the discount was critical.
This league is changing how they pay franchise QBs,, the cap can not support it.
Even good talent has to be moved,, teams that can afford it will.
Teams that are set up and built right,
I honestly cant see this team moving forward with anything other than rookie QB contracts and average Daltons for the next few years.
We shall see.

And the other part is, we got lucky with Romo and Dak. You don't get many franchise QBs. They're hard to come by. Especially getting lucky like we did. WE could VERY easily be like the Jets. Yet Jerry is flirting with disaster.

A franchise QB without a good defense is just average. That's why Brady didn't come here. He didn't want to appear average. What has our defense made Dak and Romo look like? We are nothing until we fix this defense.

Lucky, of course, that we've not ... Sniffed an NFC title or super bowl in their 15 years?
Wot! Wot!

In his defense, we had folks pretty excited about McCoy, Griffen, and Clinton-Dix last year. That went well.

Old, expensive, and injury prone - Short and Watt - is a risky combination.
I mean he isn't wrong. Just the way it came out seemed like a more thoughtful version of Spags

You know? As much as I like Dak, I am curious as to what QBs will be available as FAs with the cap being the way that it will be. I still want us to focus on defence in the draft. With that said, there's also bound to be a QB that is good who ends up being an FA. I wonder if that's why Jerry hasn't really done anything with Dak yet? I wonder when the cap number is announced and who all gets released.
Realistically Ben R, Cam, Dalton, Mitch.
Those are all guys you'd like as the back up but not the starter.

As badly as Wentz played with a top of league contract he's still going to be traded for like a an R2 pick.

Coveted QBs just really don't hit free agency.

Yeah, this is true. However, with COVID, I wonder who else might get let go. I'd prefer to keep Dak if possible.

We learn so little from the Mailbag and DallasCowboys.com. It's a shame.

In any case, for the first question, I agree that the team likes Dak and wants him as their leader. But at the same time, they will watch what happens and if Dak is intransigent they will see that too. People should stop thinking that whether a deal is done is up to Jerry alone. Dak has a say in it too. Sure, Jerry can offer Dak $60 million a year and sign him, but that would be irresponsible. Jerry's job is to do what's best for the Cowboys and that includes managing the cap. Just because he screwed that up with other players doesn't mean he should compound the problem with Dak. I still think Dak, or his agent, want to force this situation into free agency in 2022.

As for the DT, I don't know what Short is going to cost in free agency, or JJ Watt. I like both players and they may be good for a year or two while the Cowboys young DTs develop. But I suspect neither of these players are going to be much cheaper than Tomlinson or Sheldon Rankins. I'd rather they go in that direction because we do not need another year of free agency failures.

Yep, there was definitely an opportunity. But between the front office and the coaching staff they were too stupid to take advantage of it.

Now they're going to build a winner around an expensive QB? Good luck. Mike McCarthy isn't a magician. He's just the next scapegoat.

Eatman doing his version of "If they are so good, why are they available "

No he just pointed out two FACTS. They both have injury history and made big money. We all know the why and that is a reduced cap for 2021 and for that reason even the Cowboys have to look at EVERYTHING including injury history and pass on those that have that injury history.
