True, but if we sign him at 40m a year, no money for any free agents.

Well, I guess not any big names anyway. But, this would be an occasion where I'd support getting a few bridge players like a Gerald McCoy who can start for a season or two while the later round picks develop. I've done a few mock drafts lately where I've drafted heavy on defence, and there is a lot of talent in this draft. What we'll probably need for some of the players is a veteran who can hold the place while those rookies develop.

Agreed, but with the bargain bin shopping we have done in the past, don't know if they are really worth it.

I think we've gone about it the wrong way. I don't think it's wrong to get players for a cheap price, but the players we got were hardly quality players. I think there is a way to get better talent while not paying as much. Plus, we've been using those FAs, from what I've seen, as players we count on to be starters for a long period of time. The players I'm talking about are players we bring in for a year or two (like we've done with Aldon Smith and the guy that went to the Bears after last season) that play for a little while, then our rookies are developed to the point where we can at least begin starting them more often. After the season or two we have with the players, they go elsewhere and we get the comp pick for them. There are plenty of quiet quality FAs like John Johnson from the Rams who are FAs that people don't know much about but are quality players. That's what I want.

Would like to see us trade some late picks for quality players as well.
We did good with the DE Quinn from Miami.
Traded a 6th for him, got a good year from him
And then a 4th comp pick.

Quinn!!!! That was the one I was thinking of! Yes, that would be a move I'd like to do again is use our 6th on a fringe vet that we can keep for a season and collect a nice comp pick for. Essentially trading the 6th for a player and a future 3rd or 4th round pick. It's a good trade imo.

One of Jerry’s better moves!

Hoping they do!

Yup! Trade one of the 6s or our 7 for a vet defender, draft Tay Gowan with the other 6, and I think we'd be in good shape. I'm thinking Von Miller might be one of those players. The Broncos are apparently talking about cutting him. Why not see if they'll take a 6 or a 7th for him? If he's got a year or two left on his contract, trading a 6th or 7th for him would give us an excellent veteran player with a few more years in the tank as he serves as a bridge. When his contract expires, collect the comp pick. John Atkins from the Lions might be another good option with our 6th.

All depends on how is left on miller's contract.
