Cowboys may target McFadden

Everyone seems to be forgetting that one of our 1st rounders is reliant on Cleveland, who is not only Cleveland, but probably starting a rookie quarterback. Hopefully, I don't jinx it, but who would really be surprised if we didn't need to make a move to get in the top 5?

To many things can happen between now and the next draft to be targeting some player. What if some other RB comes out and out shines McFadden? Don't you think we would be interested in that guy instead?

What if there is a "franchise type" QB sitting there when we pick? Would Jerry take him as the potential sucessor to Romo? What about a shutdown corner like Deion is sitting there?

Way to early to think we are looking at one particular guy. And that is not to mention Julius Jones. Believe me, he has to convince me this season, but what if he rushes for 1500 or even 1800 this year in Garrett's offensive, you just want to throw him away for an unsure thing.

There are "great" backs that come out every year, some make it some don't. When we drafted Emmitt, I remember how everyone believe he wouldn't be more than a 1100 back a year and was to small to hold up to the pounding of the NFL. Seems like Jimmy and Jerry saw something very different. I'm not giving up on Julius just yet but if he is going to prove something he better start now.

Todd Archer, of the Dallas Morning News, reports the Dallas Cowboys may go after University of Arkansas RB Darren McFadden in the 2008 NFL Draft, if he declares for the draft. The Cowboys have two first-round picks next year.

Todd Archer is the smartest man alive. :D

per kffl

:D Great observation I wonder how long it took him to figure that out?

lets say Julius has another subpar year and we draft McFadden. I'm worried that McFadden will take away a lot of Barber's touches. Julius and Barber kinda combine their abilities to equal McFadden. Julius and Barber compliment each other very well and I don't know if Barber would be comfortable knowing he's a career backup in Big D with McFadden at the helm..

I'm not sold on McFadden. He is very Julius Jones like. Very fast, but if the defense touches him, he is down for the count. Now don't get me wrong, he outruns just about everybody, but his game in college isn't going to translate to the NFL as well as it did in college. The NFL is way faster, bigger, and stronger. If you compare him to Peterson who also has speed though not as much as McFadden, you will notice a huge difference in sheer ability.

Peterson owns McFadden.

I will take Peterson everyday and twice on Sundays. You can have Julius McFadden.

So if Mcfadden doesnt declare, or Has a bad year, and JJ pops off for 1500+ yards, would you still want him then?

thought so.
Then we can get him w/ our second 1st rounder, the 32nd overall pick :D .....YES, I would still take him.....

so if he comes out and plays medicore to sorry, you would still want him? Even if JJ and Barber play good? you would take one person from college, who had a subpar year, and a good year, over proven NFL backs? Hos i thought i knew you better than that?

YES becuz McFadden has franchise-back talent. NO, he won't have a mediocre--->sorry year because he has franchise-back talent unless Arkansas has a mediocre--->sorry O-Line which I have no idea about becuz I don't follow the Razorbacks.....

Nothing.

But I for one am hoping he gives us 1500 reasons this year to keep him.

Therefor we won't need to use our picks to move up and get McFadden.

We can use those 2 1st rounders on an actual need like a future #1 WR (if Hurd or Austin can't be that) or a LT (if also needed).

I think it would be very beneficial if we aready had our franchise RB on the team rather then spend greats picks on a new RB.
Sam Baker from SoCal or that other OLT from that state that Ohio St. kicks around every year..... ;)

I actually have to agree. Seems like most have Baker ranked ahead of Long at this point BUT I have Long ahead of the SoCal tackle right now.....

Long was talked about a top 5/10 pick in the 07 draft.

It confuses me to see all the "experts" having Baker over Long.

Way too early to tell anyway.

so one good year in college proves he's a franchise back?

but if JJ has a good year in the NFL he's not a franchise back?

How does that correlate?

Two good years, he rushed for over 1100 yards and had 11 TD's his Freshman year winning the SEC freshman of the year award, plus he was the backup at the beginning of the year. He's only played 2 seasons, what do you want from him? 3 great years in two seasons?

You said he only had one great year. He's had 2 verygood/great years, out of 2 years.... what more do you want from the guy. How many players sit on the bench untill they are seniors and then have a great year and get drafted high? Plenty. he was the first sophmore to ever win the Doak Walker award, he's pretty good.

and this comes from a guy who doesn't have McFadden in his Sig......Darren McFadden is a Special RB. He has an almost perfect combination of speed, power, agility, and size, which has allowed him to destroy some of the best defenses in the nation in the best conference in the nation over the last two years. He has the words "Franchise Running Back" written all over him.
