Cowboys need to be proactive at RB

I like Spiller but not as a workhorse back. For one, he's more injury risk than Murray, his nickname is Glass for Pete's sake. And Gurley may not be available by the start of the season. That's 2 injured players away from having Randle as the main back. With his attention span and proclivity for stupidity off the field, that's like playing on a volcano while it's erupting. Ryan Williams has potential but a complete unknown as well as a history of injuries.

I hope the Cowboys have a better back up plan than this.

Garrett leaves for a college team, Romo is on the trading block, and Travis Frederick signs with the Commanders. This place would meltdown in epic fashion.

Exactly. We have a few hurdles, but at least we can do the peepee dance while strutting a banjo and eating a pickle and wearing crocs and wave our hand in the air like just don't care and remember our names rhyme with umpty and we like our oatmeal lumpy get ready to bump thee or something. I forget now....oh yeah, we were laughing at the Whiners. Laughter OL!

If they aren't going to re-sign Murray or trade for Peterson, they need to go ahead and sign Spiller and plan on drafting a running back and plan on releasing Randle at the earlier convenience. The guy doesn't even have trade value at this point. If the Lions gets Spiller, Jaguars get Murray, and Cardinals get Peterson, I'd be a bit peeved.

I don't want us to break the bank for Murray, and can't wait to see him go to another team and try running behind their line without the same level of success.

I think we'll be find without him, but we do need to act accordingly.

It's one thing not to overpay players, but it is another to be reactionary. This team still needs to get better on defense, and it needs to at the very least maintain what it has on offense. At this moment we're a worse team than we were when we played Green Bay.

Again, I'm not saying we should break the bank or overreact, but we do need to be proactive here. We don't want a repeat of what we saw at Defensive End last year.

I think the Cowboys' actions, though not proactive in your definition, are responsible and, to date, far from reactionary.

Maybe you can take a 24-hour break from the keyboard so you don't overreact in your proactiveness?

Just think, free agency is only 7 hours old.

Wait a couple of weeks. The thread titles will read something like this:

th

I love the way Dallas is handling this. Being patient and hopefully smart with their money (the little bit that they have).)

Truthfully I was on the fence but I'd rather get some d guys in free agency and then out of top 2-4 picks pick up rb. If we could get Gurley or Gordon and then a later rb to back him up. That would be a nice tandem immediately.

If they don't, its because they don't want him (which would be foolish), not because they cant afford him.

They don't want him. Commish has spoken, fiddle with Rice or Hardy at your own peril.
Look for Adrian Clayborn next week.

I think Gurley, Williams, Dunbar combo would be great.

But honestly prefer not to spend our 1st rounder on a RB.

If so, use our money saved from Murray on the defense.

The problem is the draft is unknown. You don't know what will be there when you pick. You almost have to sign a veteran back now unless you're comfortable with the idea of Ryan Williams starting for you this year.

Gurley would be a BEAST behind this line, he is Lynch like in style.

Further, you can use FA money to address the defense exclusively and still add defensive players in the draft.

Gurley may not be ready for camp.

First round RBs are cheap but not free. At 27 the going rate is 5 years and 13m.

For that kind of money it might be smarter to draft a CB or DE, they would run around 5/16m

We can easily draft a RB in the 2nd round and life will go own. Trade up into the 2nd to get the guy the want. There crisis over

The question will be availability and BPA regardless, as you know, these are just a few options in a deep RB class.

I agree CB could be the value, DE would be the preference but will there be anyone worth taking at #27, maybe Owamagbe Odighizuwa if he were there for LDE, his pro day was quite good.

Most think Dupree and the better rushers will be gone by #27, so CB may be the best available, then you could draft your RB in 2-3.

However, 5 years at 13m is a bargain at RB compared to 8-10 million for a 27 year old back.

We will not know what direction they will go until the Murray situation is concluded and free agent moves are made, draft day will narrate the moves from there.

We will keep playing games, but the drop off from Murray to a rookie will be huge. To create a hole over money alone is pretty sketchy.
