Okay look at the trade like this: For one, Cowboys having issues with Columbo staying healthy and finding a person who can hold down the tackle position that needs to be filled immediately in order for the Offense to operate just like it suppose to be. And Cowboys O-Line will be solidified for some years at the offensive line position if they decide to make the move to get McNeil a proven Pro Bowl Offensive Lineman.

Think about this for a moment. Who do we currently have at these positions:

QB
WR
DL
OLB
ILB
TE
CB
RB

We have depth and more depth at a TON of positions, seriously. This team is deeply stacked at almost every position. There are some question marks at S and the real weakness of this team is the OL which, not surprisingly, is only of second importance to a QB in terms of positions and a teams success. You just can't put band-aids along the OL and expect to stay competitive.

Romo and a lot of our stars will be good for some time yet on this team, but their health and other factors could change their star status at any time. What does this team really need in terms of a 1st and 3rd next year that we absolutely have to keep those picks? What depth do we really need to address to send our 1st/2nd to other teams to accumulate later round picks? There are only a few missing pieces to our team. So suppose we draft either a: OT/OG/C next year in the early rounds. There is no guarantee that the player is going to be a star. There is no guarantees on how long he is going to take to transition to the NFL.

This team is set to win NOW and in the next year or two. We need to begin fixing this OL NOW. We're going to have absolutely no stand ins for any rookies we draft along the OL as they get acclimated to the NFL. Our OL is aging fast and injuries are piling up.

If I'm not mistaken, he's amongst the top five biggest spenders right now as far as cap number is concerned.

He blocked for future NFL running backs Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown, and allowed only one quarterback sack as a guard. In 2004, he was selected to the Coaches First-team All-SEC, the AP First-team All-SEC, and helped lead the Auburn Tigers to an undefeated 13-0 record. While at Auburn, McNeill was a 2-time All-American and named to The Sporting News All-Decade team.[3]

LOL. No he didn't. His base salary this year is 17 million (as in not including guaranteed money). Next year it is 8.5 million. And there after it is... wait for it.... 1.5 million for the next four years. That is just nuts.

Austin's contract is incredibly front loaded. Jerry took full advantage of the uncapped year. Not to mention he must have a lot of faith in Austin to not get lazy the last four years.

I never said his contract hurt the Cowboys, but yes, he is getting paid handsomely. That said, I don't see Jerry paying McNeil what he wants. If Colombo were lost for the year, it might be a different story.

he will get beat with speed....but he can anchor. Barron cannot anchor, which is why he did what he did....have someone chip the outside shoulder in crucial situations and Columbo will be fine

I agree 100% with you, I love the guy, one of the nicest people I've ever met, his body has just failed him.
