Cowboys need to see Tony Romo move in practice

I really don't think he is playing Sunday.

I think the team internally knows it.

Hence you get remarks from Weeden and Vaughn that they are ready for their roles Sunday.

This is all to keep AZ guessing and take the spotlight off of Weeden.

It's the right way to play it.

If Weeden gets the job done I fully expect him to play in London while Romo dons a Chelsea jersey and claps alongside Garrett.

As a backup Weeden has to get himself ready every week like he is going to be playing.

“I’m going to do it like I’ve been doing up until this point and just prepare mentally, physically like I’m going to play,” Weeden said. “That’s the only way you can really do it, and if you do it any other way, it’s tough. I’m just going to treat it like I’m playing on Sunday. If I do, good, and if I don’t, I’ll be ready if something happens.

I think that is the tough part for the backup knowing most weeks you will not play but during the week they have to prepare themselves to be ready to go in at a moments notice

I don't expect Romo playing without any reps, each week is different so expect Weeden to be under center Sunday.

"We're going to see what he's able to do today in practice," Garrett said. "Getting his rehab, getting his treatment and really taking it day by day, so we'll see what he's able to accomplish."
Garrett had hoped to see Romo make some progress in Thursday's practice, but he acknowledged Friday that Romo "did not do a whole lot." The Cowboys will need to see Romo moving better before making him the starter in Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals.

"We're going to see what he's able to do today in practice," Garrett said.

It must be a beating to deal with the media every day. If I were an NFL coach, I think I would just be satisfied being a coordinator and wouldn't want to be an HC. Answering the same questions every day would get really old.

RGIII practiced more than Romo did and the coaches played the same thing. I really cannot fathom how, if Romo didn't practice today, they would consider putting him out there. I think they are trying to game Arians.
.

RGIII was coming off being out for many weeks.

Romo has been starting for almost a decade. RG3 hasn't. One doesn't need the practice the other does. Romo has a bruised back. RG3's injury was much more severe. You're comparing apples to oranges.

We don't know what Tony's injury is.

That's a ridiculous statement.

Really? Because they should have stopped Tony from playing in OT after seeing him struggle it he 4th Quarter... for many reasons, not the least of which being his health, but they couldn't. Hard to explain, no?

He struggled the entire game on 3rd because of the blitz. But it's ridiculous to think Jerry makes decisions about whom to play.

He said that he told Jason that Tony was good to go on the sideline, period. It didn't really seem like and interactive discussion IMO. I think that there is 0.0 chance that Jason was going to say "well Jerry, let's see how he looks when he gets out here before we put him in" or in OT, " Jerry, he gave it a valiant try, but he is just not there physically or mentally after the shot and trauma, I am going to go back with Weeden". 0 chance.

You're making all kinds of assumptions. Fine for a forum just don't apply for a scientific job.

Nice, no reason to be insulting.
Jerry told us what he said to Jason on the sideline, with that information and your knowledge of the Jones / Garrett power dynamic, what would your scientific methodology (deductive, inductive) tell you about what actually transpired?

If Romo is going to be all doped up and mummified with double flack jackets on, I think we should roll with Weeden.

We need to think about the division and we need a healthy Romo for our division games with Philly coming up. I would rather lose to Arizona with Weeden and have a healthy Romo for the home stretch than to watch Arizona send sell out blitzes every 3rd down trying to knock Romo out of the game.

Not being insulting. At least I don't mean to be. I wasn't there, I can't mind read, I know that Jerry doesn't tell the coaches whom to play, and I don't make leaps of faith about how to connect dots that most wouldn't consider trying to connect since they exist in some's perception of reality only.

You are making several hypotheses and using opinion to prove them.

just start Weeden Sunday and vs. Jax. that's 3 whole weeks Romo can heal up

worst case scenario we're 6-4 coming out of the bye

After winning 6 straight to turn around and lose their next 4 in a row would signify the wheels are coming off. A 6-4 record would leave the Cowboys with the same record they had under Garrett in his first full season in 2011. The Cowboys would be in some deep trouble if they end up at 6-4 coming out of the bye because they have a history of returning from bye weeks/long weeks flat and they have a tough 6 game stretch to finish out the season. Dropping 4 straight would destroy all the confidence and momentum the Cowboys had built up the first 7 games. I feel it's critical they win on Sunday and bounce back from their poor performance to a struggling Washington team or the season could start taking a bad turn.

I agree, but I see more like 7-3. I know we just lost to the Commanders, and could lose to the Cardinals, even with Romo at 100%. But do you really think we could lose to the Jaguars even with Weeden playing.

Though I did have a dream last night, the Jaguars WR's running past our secondary....
