I'd like to read the chat later if someone has access to it...
I do this only because you have a dolphin and a unicorn in your avatar.
Tony Romo Valley Ranch, TX: Matt, why are you afraid to tell the people that you love me? No more BBQ's for you!
Matt Mosley: Well, we're off to a strong start already. I've been monitoring the Mike Vick situation the last few minutes, but I'm ready to talk football now. And I didn't have BBQ with Tony the other night. It was another NFL quarterback.
DEMING, NM : THERE HAS BEEN RUMORS SPECULATING THAT L.J. COULD END UP IN DALLAS, ARE THE COWBOYS WORKING SOME KIND OF BLOCKBUSTER TRADE OR IS THIS JUST SPECULATION.
Matt Mosley: I heard the same rumors you guys heard, so I ran it by some of my sources. They say there's no way it will happen. Yes, the team's not completely satisfied with Julius Jones, but that would be a HUGE deal, and they're not going to blow things up to bring Larry in here.
Ryan, Ohio: Matt, what week do we see Romeo fired and Quinn at QB?
Matt Mosley: Ryan, you're in charge of keeping score today. I've already hit the Chiefs and Cowboys. Now the Browns. I think Romeo will make it through the season, but I fear your Browns don't have enough firepower to save his job this season. It's time to start up the Cowher talk. I think Quinn will be the starter in Week 6. Write that down.
Erich (CT): What do you mean blow things up with Larry Johnson? Bringing L.J. to Dallas instantly makes this team even more of a Super Bowl contender.
Matt Mosley: The Cowboys already believe they're Super Bowl contenders. They don't want to pay that high of a price. You'd have to pay him close to LT money, and the Chiefs are going to ask for a lot. A first-rounder doesn't land you the second best back in football.
Cory, Newark, DE: How will the Giants do this year without Tiki? Jacobs is a decent player. Is Eli ready for this huge responsibility?
Matt Mosley: Cory: So nice of you to stop by today. I mentioned recently how the Giants are trying to change Eli's demeanor in the huddle. I've been told from more than one player that Tiki used to have to tell him to get his chin up after players. Regarding the loss of Tiki, you don't replace him. I think Jacobs and Droughns can do find, although you don't have a burner there...Keep your eye on my guy Ahmad Bradshaw...Quick, quick, quick.
Dave Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada: Matt: How bad is the Vikings QB situation?
Matt Mosley: Let me just say that Drew Henson couldn't have picked a better destination. I think all three guys will get a chance at some point. I actually think Tarvaris has a ton of talent, but it's tough to see a team going into a season with that much inexperience.
Justin from Pittsburgh, PA: I have a question I want to know how you can think that the Jets will be better than the Steelers. They are for sure in the top 10 in the NFL. You will also see when the Steelers beat the Jets in November.
Matt Mosley: Justin, I think the Steelers can crack my coveted Top 10 at some point. But right now, I'd like to see how this Faneca situation with Tomlin is going to work out...Did you guys draft the most dynamic punter in the history of the league? ABSOLUTELY!
John Fox North Carolina: Why are you rating my team so low in "Hashmarks" and below teams that ON PAPER we have a better squad?
Matt Mosley: Good Lord, John. After that mess you rolled out there last season, you should be thrilled with that ranking. How do you think the Broncos feel right now. In fact, I may replace you guys with the Broncos at any minute. You're No. 10 for goodness sakes.
Jordan, Ohio: Just curious as to your stance on the Denver Broncos? They have an up and coming QB, a vastly improved defense, and now a feature running back in Travis Henry. How far do you think they can make it?
Matt Mosley: Listen, I'm actually pretty high on the Broncos. I think Cutler's going to make some big strides and the defense should be pretty solid. I don't usually worry about their running backs, but then, I'm not a huge Travis Henry guy.
Ryan, Ohio: 25%, 8 out 32 teams commented on
Matt Mosley: Keep up the great work, Ryan.
Evan (OH): What do you think the chances are that the UFL will become the development league of the NFL now that Europa folded?
Matt Mosley: Don't see it happening at this point.
Bid Dan (SF, CA): Hey Matt, 49ers question here. What do you see as the outlook for the 9ers this year? Are they playoff bound? Do they have an Aikman, Smith, Irvin combo in Smith, Gore, and V.Davis? Thanks in advance...
Matt Mosley: Whoa pardner! Let's hold off on that Triplets talk for another year or so. I've been very supportive of your 49ers because I like what they're doing on the OL and at linebacker. Yes, Gore's poised to have a huge season, but I'm not convinced Smith will pick right up where he left off with Norv. Vernon Davis is a big talent, but he's no Novacek at this point.
Lovie Smith, Chicago: Do you think Dusty D. can fill Tank Johnsons' shoes?
Matt Mosley: Loves, I seem to recall our guy Dusty running into some issues at OU, but we won't get into that. I think he can be solid, but he's not close to the talent that Tank is.
Jason Campbell, Commanders Park, VA: Any doubt I will be a breakout star and lead the Commanders to 10 wins?
Matt Mosley: I realize I haven't been too complimentary toward the Commanders and I'm hearing about it quite a bit today. In that division, I just don't know how you can find more than eight wins for them. And yes, I have serious doubt that Jason Campbell has a breakout season.
Matt Leinart, Arizona: Please tell me my offensive line is going to be able to keep me upright for the majority of the year. It would be very reassuring to hear that right now.
Matt Mosley: You guys moved out an unhappy player in Leonard Davis, but I'm not sure that helps the situation too much. I think you'll become a huge Al Johnson. He moves really well, and he's a great leader. Just wasn't allowed to do that in Dallas. The rook should also be a good one.
RyanNampa ID): Hey Matt. Ok, I know everyone seems to like to bash the Raiders... but if their offense even works its way up to 20th in the NFL and combined with their solid defense couldn't the Raiders be competitive this year. Maybe 8-8?
Matt Mosley: I'm not ruling 8-8 out completely, but you have to realize that would be an outstanding season. I like that defense, but that offensive line scares me to death with a rookie quarterback.
Ray Lewis, Baltimore,MD: I keep hearing people say that the Bengals are going to win the divison instead of us, what gives?
Matt Mosley: I've never said that. I think Carson Palmer's set up to have a huge season, but there are still a lot of question marks. After Chad and Housh, what are you doing at receiver? The Ravens still have an elite defense and I think they're finally seeing some improvement at wide receiver.
Darren McFadden, Arkansas: You're familiar with David Lee. Is he going to use in his offense to where I can compete for the Heisman?
Matt Mosley: Little SEC talk. I think McFadden will emerge as the best player in college football under the tutelage of OC David Lee. The thing you have to worry about at Arkansas is all the off-field stuff. Just ask Nutt about that.
Adam "Pac Man" Jones, Mr. Jiggles - NV: I wanted to take a moment to apologize for the stretch of bad weather you've gotten in Dallas. I was in town and am responsible for "making it rain" all last week...
Matt Mosley: Nice.
Mike (MICHIGAN): How do you see the entire year playing out for the Detroit Lions RB situation? What kind of yards/TD's will each guy get? Kevin Jones/T.J. Duckett/Tatum Bell
Matt Mosley: Mike: If you've been reading the wildly popular but underappreciated Hashmarks blog, you know my take on this situation. I don't think we'll see much from Mr. Jones. It will be all Tatum Bell and T.J. Duckett this season.
thnom (England): How do you see Vince Young progressing this year with another season under Chow? Chow doesn't seem to get the credit other "QB Tutors" such as Norv Turner get and I don't know why, any ideas?
Matt Mosley: I've always thought Chow received plenty of credit. He was the guru at USC and he's made the transition now. Vince Young is a winner first and foremost. Now, I'd like to see them put some more weapons around him. If this kid wins with that group of receivers, then he truly is special. Even my friends with the Titans are sitting around wondering how they ended up with no receivers.
Joe (AZ via Chicago) *this is MY name*: MM, thanks for chatting - do the Bears really have enough $$ as speculated to lock up T. Harris, Tillman & Berrian if they don't re-sign Briggs past 07??
Matt Mosley: I have a hard time seeing it. Internally, the Bears think that Tillman's better than Vasher. You have to get that deal done. I don't think Berrian's that difficult. You need Tommie Harris, but it will be hard to see it all getting done. Briggs should've signed that $33 million deal he got offered last season.
Scott (Ogden, UT): Matt, am I the only one who thinks the Rams could be a sleeper team in the NFC? I think they have improved this off-season and while they are not perfect, I think they could steal the West if Seattle and S.F. are not careful.
Matt Mosley: Scott: I'm glad you brought this up. I think the Rams could have a huge season on offense. The thing that scares me is that defensive line. I think you start up front, and that unit just doesn't have all that much experience, But there's always the remote chance I could be wrong.
Sim (New Orleans, LA): I totally agree with your overall ranking of the Saints (4th), but I disagree about the defense. They have possibly the best 4-3 DE duo in the NFL and have replaced three pretty awful players (Fred Thomas, Josh Bullocks, Mark Simoneau) with three that can be considered anywhere from average to pretty good (Brian Simmons, Jason David, and Kevin Kaesviharn, who your boy Joyner listed as one of the two most underrated safeties in the NFL). They were ranked 11th last season in total yards (skewed a bit in their favor as it penalizes bad pass defense moreso than bad run defense), but they should absolutely play like a top 7-12 defense next season.
Matt Mosley: I respect a man who does his research before a chat. Listen, I'm very familiar with the hard-working duo of Shanle and Fujita, and Dhani could also help that squad. I still don't think of that as a great defense, though. Some nice players, but that's definitely not the strength of the team. Let Sean and the boys pile up points.
Jimmy (Dallas): Are the 'boys kicking themselves for not taking Merriman and taking Ware instead? Merriman is looking HOF whilst Ware is just very good, and what about Marcus Spears (does he fit the Wade Phillips 3-4?). How mediocre is Julius Jones. How Dallas still start him is a mystery.
Matt Mosley: Still too early on the whole Merriman-Ware thing, but I will say that Wade Phillips has asked his young linebackers to watch film of Merriman. I think Bill Parcells will say Merriman was the guy, but I think Ware still has a lot of room to grow. It will always be the debate, but I don't think Wade's sitting around feeling sorry for himself leaving Shawne to work with DeMarcus.
Chase (Indiana, PA): Matt I just got home from work so I quickly caught up on Hashmarks which I always do. But I didnt like what i saw today. How are the boy's not in the top 10 power rankings? I mean the Jets? Give me a break
Matt Mosley: Chase: There will be days like this. Momma told you that. But don't lose faith in the power of Hashmarks. The Broncos and Cowboys are knocking on the door.
Nate (philly): Matt, with the tremendously tough top three (4 if you want to include the Ravens) all living in the AFC, couldn't you argue that the Bears are the team most likely to MAKE (not win) the Super Bowl? Getting out of the AFC playoffs alive is going to be brutal. NFC...not so much.
Matt Mosley: A guy from Philly saying the Bears are the most likely team to reach a Super Bowl? I have the Eagles in front of the Bears. We can discuss this later.
Jarrod (Baltimore,MD): Will Coach Shottenheimer be a head coach somewhere next season? After a 14-2 finished he gets canned for Norv Turner. Could i be missing something?
Matt Mosley: Nope.
Jeff[oio]: since bill Belichick contract is up after the season do you think he will get an extension? or do you think he i will coach somwhere els?
Matt Mosley: He's back if he wants to be. And he can set the market, Kraft will pay him. It will be interesting to see how much Cowher gets.
Jonathan (Toronto, CANADA): Okay, mini hashmarks here. Top 5 offenses. How about New Orleans, St Louis, Arizona, San Diego and Indy?
Matt Mosley: Indy, San Diego, New Orleans, St. Louis, Arizona.
Paul (Acton, MA): How many yards is Maroney going to have for the patriots?
Matt Mosley: 1,280 and 11 touchdowns
Brad, AZ: How many TD passes for Leinart in 2007?
Matt Mosley: Now I was just ranking the five teams the Canadian guy gave me. Those weren't the top five overall...I'd give Leinart 17 TDs next season.
Joe (AZ via Chicago): MM, who do you see taking a chance in the supplemental draft on Gaither or Oliver? I would think that a 3-4th rounder for either if they're there would be EXCELLENT. What are your thoughts? I'd LOVE to see the Bears take a #3 on Gaither if he's there, given that they have SD's #3 next year as well...
Matt Mosley: Hang on a sec, Joe. I need to consult my supplemental draft board. No, I wouldn't give up a No. 3 for Gaither. Yes, I'm familiar with his work, but you don't spend that kind of pick in the supplemental unless you're desperate. Bears aren't.
Tim (Brielle, NJ): Time for a Jets question. People are bashing on you for putting the Jets in the top 10. So give me your thoughts on their season.
maandale: what! how can you not put cincinnati in the top five offenses
Matt Mosley: I JUST explained that. I was using the five teams the guy gave me...Word.
They call me Chucky...: Throw the Bucs a bone. We're flying under the radar and we think we have enough talent to win the division and do damage in the playoffs. I'll be around next year.
Matt Mosley: I just don't see it. Galloway's the only receiver you have and he's like 36. And don't even try to sell me on Boston. I like the kid from B.C. on the line, but it's not a great unit. You have at least 12 quarterbacks on the roster though.
Tim (Brielle, NJ): Time for a Jets question. People are bashing on you for putting the Jets in the top 10. So give me your thoughts on their season.
Matt Mosley: Yes yes, I knew I'd get killed on that one, I'm always impressed when a team doesn't rank in the Top 20 on offense or defense and somehow finds a way to fight their way to the playoffs. And I really think Thomas Jones will help that offense.
Matt, Buffalo: Where we at, Ryan? Will the Bills finally use Roscoe Parrish in their base offense? He and Lee Evans would open huge holes for Marshawn.
Matt Mosley: Ahhh. A Bills question. Oh, and Ryan checked out on us early. I don't know about the base offense, but I do see a big year from Evans coming. And Marshawn's also going to help in that passing game.
Matt,MPLS : Gotta get a Packers question in...and sort of a fantasy question too...who totes the rock for the Packers this year?
Matt Mosley: I know you're not going to like this, but it's the kid from Nebraska Jackson. I've watched him in person twice, and he's actually a really nice back. He's not going to put up big fantasy numbers, though.
Ryan, Ohio: I'm back, you're at 81% and still need some Dolphins, Texans, Jags, Pack, Seahawks and Falcons fans!!!
Matt Mosley: Dolphins-John Beck is having his wife quiz him on the playbook while he's grocery shopping, and I think he's going to be on the field by Week 8.
Jags- Daunte will get there eventually, and will start at some point.
Pack-just did them.
Falcons-The Feds are on the ground again in Surry County. Get Joey ready. I like those rookies. Kid from Arkansas could have a tremendous impact.
Seahawks-did them
Texans- The defense is getting stronger all the time. Mario should be a lot better this season, and DeMeco will continue to be one of the best in football.
You guys have been great. Have a superb weekend. and listen to AM GameDay tomorrow.
