Now you are thinking like a Colonel ....errr I mean like a NFL owner ..... yea ......
Both sides are trying to make as much money as possible. Both are doing a pretty good job of it.

if that's the case, then the likes of Barry Church, ... Anthony Hitchen... and Damien Wilson should've been paid crazy money too.
Why not them too ?
They didn't have a year like Schultz and didn't go for it. And they didn't throw, tote or catch the ball, The Joneses are follow the ball fans.

My Gawd, Prescott is just the dumbest thing.
But they had no choice and the motor mouthed owner/GM spent all his time telling the fans how great he was. His mouth has caused him to up the pay of his last two QB's.

But, let's be honest, do we really want the Joneses in a QB hunt? Prescott was their 3rd fall back in that draft.

I really think too many fans do not spend enough time just looking at the line of QB's on this team and how they came into Romo and Prescott. They are awful at evaluating QB's....AWFUL.

and they were all to Schultz on the defensive side of the ball - serviceable types. .

Despite the reception stats, that wasnt convincing enuff to get Schultz into a pro bowl was that because fellow peers and coaches did not see him as so. because
they know those stats were more of a systematic product than what he is individually .. ?

OK, release him and watch the QB missing his 2nd most targeted receiver and his #2WR, injury, and 3 and 4. Not to mention his 1 or !A, however you look at that,

As far as pro bowl, the NFC had two, Kittle and Pitts. He is not as good as they are but he won't approach their contracts either.

Are we still beating this dead horse...LOL.....wait til PETA finds out about this. Anywhooooo, Schultz' stats came about due more to Dak's failure of reading defenses downfield and then checking down on his safety valve. With Amari, CeeDee, Gallup, Wilson, etc receiving the bulk of attention, he was usually left open or had loose coverage underneath to work with. The TE is not a major part of a Dallas offense and defenses know it. No knock on Dak or Schultz, Romo and Witten had the same type of connection. Schultz certainly is not worth top 10 TE money as he is not in the category of Kelce, Kittle, Waller, Pitts, or any other multitude of young TE in the league right now. Franchising him by this FO was a panic move, but that is history and par for the course by them as we have seen with the QB situation (Romo & Dak). .., so now he can play his final year, pad his stats, get his parting gift and head outta Dodge.

...Or better yet, franchise tag him this one year, as a rental year, since most of Dak's receiving group has been compromised, while building a future plan for Schultz's
eventual replacement.

That's my take on it also....gambling on McKeon, Ferguson, or perhaps one or two of the other 4 TEs to improve like Schultz / turn out better.

Unlike Schultz, none of them ranked nearly as high at their positions. People keep saying he is nothing more than serviceable, but I suspect they are comparing him to Kelce & Kittle. The reality is he was 4th among TE's in TD's last year, and 6th in yardage. The last time the Cowboys got a comparable season from a TE was 9 years ago. Of course he isn't Kelce or Kittle, but that level isn't a realistic expectation. Those guys are rare.

... plus there's also the additional option of going the NFL draft route with a highly regarded TE prospect ..

And there is also the option of seeing Schultz play an additional year to confirm that he can consistently perform as he did last year, and then sign him to a longer term deal if he does.

Kelcie, Kittle, Mark Andrews, Darren Waller, TJ Hockenson, Dallas Godert, etc, ... i admire Schultz's durability toughness, and what he does best in a systematic fit.
he has a knack for zone and soft spots in coverage, and he's reliable in roll outs and dump offs underneath, but But he's workman, he doesn't present
individual man up mismatches and match up advantages. He's not a featured, He's not that kind of guy.

yes, take advantage of zone heavy back coverages that invites dump offs and underneath... while we take away the more vertical shots by the WRs,
yes take advantage of the play-action passes off fake runs into the roll outs .... but club obviously is not gonna invest heavily in a B-tier TE and give him
A-tier money.

Goedert and Hockenson haven't proven anything more than Schultz, and for as good as Waller was a few years ago, he dropped off last year.

To me Kelce, Kittle and Andrews are the Big 3. Waller would have fit as a 4th a couple of years ago, but he would have to re-establish that now. After that Schultz has been as good recently as anyone.

And, the thing to know is Schultz won't command the money those guys would if they were free agents. Kittle is already on a contract that easily surpassed what Schultz would get. If they were all free agents today they would all command much more than Schultz.

Again that's because his stats have been based on catches underneath, dump offs and soft zone coverages , hes' not asked to line up and flat our beat man coverages that the Hockenson and Dallas Goedert are ask to do. .. those TEs force teams to game plan for them to have a better chance

much like we did with CB Byron Jones our best cover guy vs Philly's TE Zach Ertz ...nobody is gonna game plan for Schultz,
and these guys may be limited only by the QBs passing them the ball.

Stephen Jones is infamous for going all out to re-sign his core offensive players, and his core offensive players end up being the highest or among highest paid at their positions - does not seem he thinks Schultz is in that same company of highest regarded - highest paid TEs .

I think you're putting way too much credit on the idea in your first paragraph. It's like, this idea gets passed around and everyone just starts repeating it. You don't get top 5 numbers if that's all you do.

then they are probably repeating what i have already detailed,.. .that's their choice, that's your choice . ..but when people are determined to soop-up for their hometown player, they don't want to hear those usurps and what they perceive as negativity, downers and discrediting their likeable players .

yes you can get those kind of stats, if partially it's being devised and designed, and allowed by the opposing defenses for you to get those kind of top 5 numbers.
why not give up a Schultz dump off or roll out for 8 or 9 yrds .....vs having Lamb, Coop or Gallup roaming thru your secondary for 40+ yd splash plays ?

The gift of that is ..if these teams are so insistent on preferring to play so much deep zone coverages - that works favorably with a TE
that does have a knack for finding underneath soft openings in that zone, i know you hate hearin' a repeat, but he Dalton does have that knack.

Getting open at the NFL level is difficult. No one is "giving" him this stuff.

You are completely misreading this.

I could go right back into detailing this all again, " repeatin' as you say .. but i won't. Let people be determined to what they want to believe.

First of all, nobody except people trying to create an argument is talking about treating Schultz as having the same market value as the elite TE's. Kittle is already well above what Schultz could expect, and if he and Kelce were negotiating today their market would be miles above Schultz.

As for Schultz stats only being based on underneath, dump offs etc ... Hockinson only averaged 9.6 yards per catch and 6.9 yards per attempt last year, so what were his contributions based on?

What Schultz was asked to do was what the team needed. He had Cooper, Lamb, Gallup and Wilson taking the deeper routes, yet even competing for balls with those guys he was one of the top TE's in the NFL.

Besides, I'm not sure a 12 yard TD counts more on the scoreboard than an 9 yard TD. Of course Schultz also had TDs of 19, 22 & 32 yards, but why count those?

But let's move to the reality of TE contracts. You act as if it is just the Kelce/Kittle/Andrews level guys that get big contracts. That's not remotely true. It doesn't even take a Goedert level guy, or a Schultz level guy. David Njoku recently signed a contract that averages $13.7 million/year, with $28 million guaranteed. Jonnu Smith signed a contract a year ago that averages $12.5 million/year with over $31 million guaranteed. Look at what those guys produced compared to Schultz. They aren't even in the same stratosphere. That's just the current market environment

Your details are not correct, that's what I'm trying to tell you. You have this idea in your head that it's easy to get open at an NFL level. No matter how many details you go over, that idea is not correct, which makes your details irrelevant.
