That's absolutely not true. The Cowboys spend right up against the cap every year. They went after Hardy last year when many said it was a big costly mistake. There
was no way they were going to pay anything close to what Suh got. Everyone loathes what Jerry paid Carr and now we're trying to figure out how to get rid of him and
still find a way to get two new CB's. Stephen is now watching the purse strings and they are just not going to try and win the FA sweepstakes any longer cause it rarely
works out well.

Stephen also tried to watch the "Purse Strings" back in 95 when trying to sign Deion Sanders and if Jerry would've listened to him we wouldn't have won the Superbowl that year.

The Brandon Carr contract is the poster child of why the team needs to draft well. The reason Dallas was in the market for a corner was in the 2011 season TNew and Mike Jenkins both completely tanked unexpectedly and nobodies like Alan Ball and Brian McCann were getting significant reps against top WRs. That's why the team was desperate for a CB.

Carr has been paid about 36MM over the last four seasons (12 over the first two). That isn't a disaster, its essentially market rate for a starting CB. The fault isn't in paying Carr, its in letting the roster get to the point you are desperate to have a FA filling that kind of hole.

I am the opposite of glad.

Why would I be glad my team isn't using every tool possible to improve?

We drafted MClaiborne, should we never draft a top 6 player again?

Just because Carr didn't work out you don't stop signing FAs forever. Just get better at picking them.

Fans can harp and rue over the misses but GMs have to have short memories. If you miss, learn from it and move on.

Awesome...just freaking AWESOME.:mad::mad: Can't wait to see the same sorry bunch that went 4-12 w/ no noticable improvements in the off season.

I real front office would have slashed and burned half a dozen guys by now. But we are too afraid that we can't replace the likes of Doug Free or Brandon Carr.

Pathetic:rolleyes:

Jerry Jones believes 2015 was a fluke. He's under the impression that this was a playoff caliber team who was handed some bad luck ... injuries at QB and WR. He believes he'll get different results in 2016 by doing nothing. I think there's a term we call people like that ... and it's not complementary.

I wish I could have Jerry's results over the past 20 years and still keep my job.

GM's who make the mistakes Jerry Jones has made over the past 20 years are working at McD's right now flipping burgers for a living.

Exactly right. Reminds me of 2009.

I'm sure we will sign a few Andrew Gachkars, jasper Brinkleys and Jed Collins!

No question JJones gives himself a pass. However, He believes he'll get different results in 2016 by doing nothing. I think there's a term we call people like that ... and it's not complementary.

everyone knows Jones doesn't set on his hands.Making false claims doesn't build anybodies case except politicians.

It's not about how much they spend...it's about who they spend it on. This excuse of waiting for the market to come to them is BS. If a guy wants to come here...work out the deal. What's so hard about that? For years this team has played the "we are broke" card...More than Stephen A. has played the race card.

As a fan...we can look back @ history and see Jerry is just tight w/ his money. While other teams get better through free agency. You just have to be smart about it. Don't spend on big name players that are over their prime like Weddle, Mario Williams. Target guys like Travis Benjamin, George Iloka...guys that are just hitting their prime w/ upside.
I agree, what is most important is how efficiently you spend your money.

But I had to blink.
I think you just said one of the biggest spenders in NFL history is tight with his money.

Now if you want to say he spent himself into cap hell a few times on the wrong assets, then I would agree!

But he certainly is NOT tight with his money

NFL free agency is almost here. The unofficial start was during the NFL Combine, when the rules are largely ignored as teams talk to agents to sort out the landscape, at a minimum. Now we will all be waiting to see who will be signed by the Dallas Cowboys. Names like Lamar Miller and Mario Williams are being bandied about to fill some of the more glaring needs. But recent history has shown that the Dallas front office does not like to spend a lot. The Cowboys have established a pattern of sitting out the first rush of big-name signings and waiting for things to settle down. Then they will look for more affordable contracts to plug the holes. At most, they may try to complete one or two sizable deals, but they may forego them completely. (Our own Michael Sisemore has a nice post up sorting through some of the more prominent rumors and trying to apply a little logic to them.)

This can create a little frustration. After free agency is mostly done, there will be a variety of articles about which teams "won" free agency. The teams that grab the big names will be proclaimed as the winners, and lately, the Cowboys have not been included in that group.

As it turns out, that is a very good thing. After a few seasons, there are always many articles like this one about the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The success the Jaguars have had drafting offensive guards the past two seasons will allow them to turn the page on a significant failed free-agent signing.

Jacksonville is set to release guard Zane Beadles, ESPN's Adam Caplan reported Thursday on Twitter. Beadles completed only two seasons of a five-year, $30 million contract he signed in free agency in 2014.

They have sat out because they didnt have the cap to do anything. Its been a long time since they havnt had dead money problems or big resignings to do. Dallas might not sign the big FAs why? because they were all franchised.

If I recall correctly I have read SJones state several times that the Dallas Cowboys will operate
under a new business model of not spending on the big name FA's. In their experience the
high dollar FA's hadn't been a good investment.
They do have room now but if SJones comments hold true they wont be in the first rush of
signing the top dollar agents.

Actually we are close to not making the 89% spending floor.

He has been real tight with the cash since BCarr and wasn't real loose before that.

That way we can look back on them like most late 1st round QBs, BUST, that were taken way too soon because of hair trigger player evaluation?

The 2016 Top QBs are mediocre talent in most years.

If the draft is, at best, a crap shoot for the professionals who do this for a living, what magic wand do you possess Mr. Potter?

Little more. He's been paid everything that was originally promised minus this year's base salary, which would total $41M. $25M over the first two years.

Don't forget Seattle-they spent on d-lineman Avril and Benett the year they won the Super Bowl.

You do realize they signed the pair of them to cheap deals that left it on their plate to live up to it?

I am all for contracts like that.

But for whatever reason, we rarely get those. Much less with those kind of results.

I wouldn't call spending 1 yr(s) / $11,311,600 on Hardy as breaking the bank. Spending 50 Million on Carr was dumb because he just wasn't a good football player. Didn't like the signing then and still don't like it. I mean..what did Carr ever do to deserve that kind of contract?

Floaty I like reading you sometimes but you undermine your credibility with
statements like this. Anybody who has watched JJOnes throw money at players
knows its just the opposite. JJones set the market way too long.
Your funny to read but have lost credibility

Please refresh my memory where Jerry has set the market on one player....
