Just look at it this way:

The Cowboys have shown that they stink in FA. How many have actually panned out? The draft I would have to say they are average, at best. Coaching, they stink. The only thing this team has really had going for it over the last 10 years has been Romo and now he is getting old and injury prone. So it would make complete sense that if anything, they need to try and find the next Romo to take over. Because without a franchise QB, this team has little hope of competing year in and year out. That much is pretty clear.

Unless, of course, there isnt a QB worthy of the 4th pick.

Mincey turned out well. Bernadeau and DMC have been solid. Hardy was much better than people credit him for. We got a year out of Livings and he was dirt cheap.

Carr was bad and there were minimum guys galore but overall the Cowboys pro scouting has been money. Carr was an act of desperation and not a targeted hit. I addressed that in what you quoted.

If you're going to make an assertion then back it up with facts as opposed to just denigrating it and begging the question.

Mincey was good year one with 6 sacks but had 0 this year. Signing him also means we stopped looking.

So 6 sacks for 1m may sound great but maybe 15 sacks for 10m is better.

Selvie was also good for 1 year, so was LRobinson and probably DMC.

Settling for good value can mean missing out on home runs.

You just backed up my claim. Add in all the bad FA pickups and a few mediocre ones here and there dont pull it out of the tank.

yah, and a few "good" signings with many horrid overpaying, didnt work signings= bad overall. Pointing out a few that werent horrid doesnt change the overall record. That DT is about the only home run I can think of that we hit ever. But most of those are over 5 or 6 years ago. Nothing of note of late.

I brought up the bad contract and gave more or less complete context. You have given nothing but parroting your assertion and assuming its true. Name all these horrible contracts outside of Carr.

RW11 was near a decade ago at this point. That was the last one before Carr.

You're boring.

The problem for you is that you didnt bring up any that worked out great. You brought one or two one year guys that didnt bomb. Unless you can come up with others, that ACTUALLY worked out great, then the burden of the claim is on you.

What is boring is the Cowboys. I dont know how you can expect anyone to be gleeful about anything you have seen over the last 6 or 7 years. A one year tease followed up by a 4-12 joke doesnt spark much fun loving thoughts. You can hope and dream all you want while I live in reality.

NFL free agency is almost here. The unofficial start was during the NFL Combine, when the rules are largely ignored as teams talk to agents to sort out the landscape, at a minimum. Now we will all be waiting to see who will be signed by the Dallas Cowboys. Names like Lamar Miller and Mario Williams are being bandied about to fill some of the more glaring needs. But recent history has shown that the Dallas front office does not like to spend a lot. The Cowboys have established a pattern of sitting out the first rush of big-name signings and waiting for things to settle down. Then they will look for more affordable contracts to plug the holes. At most, they may try to complete one or two sizable deals, but they may forego them completely. (Our own Michael Sisemore has a nice post up sorting through some of the more prominent rumors and trying to apply a little logic to them.)

This can create a little frustration. After free agency is mostly done, there will be a variety of articles about which teams "won" free agency. The teams that grab the big names will be proclaimed as the winners, and lately, the Cowboys have not been included in that group.

As it turns out, that is a very good thing. After a few seasons, there are always many articles like this one about the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The success the Jaguars have had drafting offensive guards the past two seasons will allow them to turn the page on a significant failed free-agent signing.

Jacksonville is set to release guard Zane Beadles, ESPN's Adam Caplan reported Thursday on Twitter. Beadles completed only two seasons of a five-year, $30 million contract he signed in free agency in 2014.

Yup! The Cowboys should be saving their money for that big, can't miss, one-player-away, future free agent signing. :D

Great is a nebulous term that you will move the goalposts on consistently. You also have no notion of how other teams do with their FA. We don't have to compete with your wishful thinking. We have to compete against other NFL teams.

If the Cowboys are boring then why are you here? I'm done with this convo.

And how do we compete against other NFL teams? Not to well as our history would indicate. Look, I have my own standards for the Cowboys. IF your arent up to those, that isnt my problem. i deal in reality, not hope when it comes to this team. Especially with its recent history. You havent rattled off ONE FA signing of late that was impressive and until you do the conversation is definitely over.

If you are not bothered by the state of the Cowboys franchise, then you simply have low standards. I cant compete with that low level. Things you think are acceptable I simply do not. Dont get pissy with me because I expect more out of the Cowboys. If you dont like it, either dont comment or put my on ignore. Quite frankly I wish I could take some kind of pill where I could like another team, but I cant. I see little hope for this team in the next 10 year unless they hit big on a QB. And this one year I see that as a possibility. If that bothers you, I really dont care. I have history on my side.

I wonder if the Cowboys wasting 50 million on Brandon Carr, has them shying away from paying big money to free agents

Title of this thread should be changed to "Cowboys will spend nothing in free agency".

So nobody on the market could help us win huh? Or they're too expensive? No. So much for trying to make any noise next year

Its almost to the point where you want them to do either nothing or small little deals like with the LB. The possibility of making another monumental blunder is limited that way.

Yep and I recall not too long ago guys coming on here claiming that we were going to turn it all around and fill all our holes in one off season and make a run at the SB next year. "its happened before" "look at Denver" !!!

Cowboys try to be smart like the Patriots/Packers except they aren't. They should be trying to improve the team and not waiting on the clearance bin.
