Yeah, I would prefer to wait until training camp honestly to see where we stand.
In the early portion of free agency, we definitely lost. And the Cowboys handling of both Cooper and Collins was ridiculous. Telling everyone we are going to let them go if we don't trade them. I honestly can't remember ever seeing another team do that. I was on board with signing Gallup and letting Cooper go...before Gallup blew out his knee. So, I was prepared to lose Cooper anyway, so maybe getting a 5th rounder is a little consolation in that regard. But signing Gallup for significant money when we have no idea how he will be is disturbing. He should have been signed to a one year deal that provided some safety for the team and gave him a chance to make good money. We are stuck with paying him 23m guaranteed over the next two years even if he doesn't fully recover. The loss of Collins is still bizarre. How we just gave him away for nothing is beyond me. His cap hit wasn't terrible and could have been reduced. Putting him at G would have been the best move possible. He has the strength to deal with the beasts.
Losing Gregory sucks...but I don't have a problem with how it went down. If I was investing millions on a player, I would want some safeguards when the guy is a known knucklehead....and especially after giving him all the leeway we did. The thing is that everyone talks about him being a premier pass rusher....but come on, he has never lived up to it. Ever. Fowler has had three years better than any that Gregory has put up, and Gregory is two years older. Fowler had a great season in 2019 so maybe he can do it again. Hell, Robert Quinn had a great year with us after some down years, then put up a stinker before having another good year. I just don't automatically assume that Fowler will be worse overall than Gregory would be.
They point out the loss of Cedric Wilson as being big, but James Washington has put up similar numbers over his career. His numbers were down last year but Big Ben was pretty much trash last year.
Losing Cooper and Collins definitely big loss. Gregg and Wilson, not sure it is a big deal. Losing Joseph would be pretty significant, because I believe the expectation was he would take an outside spot, Brown and Lewis would compete for the slot.
We still have the draft which hopefully will inject some juice at a couple spots, and then I am sure we will pick up a guy or two to fill holes after the draft. Then we can completely judge. Best part is, no matter what we think...it will all get determined on the field one way or another.
