This is very deceiving. What would we be ranked in we removed the Atlanta game and Chaz Green's performance. Sure other teams would want to remove their worst game also. But remove that game and you get a better feel of our ranking without a total abnormality that dramatically changed the stats. Even last year, I would think our pass blocking defense would comfortably be in the Top 10.

So 300 million in contracts only buys you top 10 or top 5 rating(Leaving our defense cap starved) hmmm then we wonder why we haven't raised SB # 6 .........The Dallas Wall the most expensive Myth out there.....as off-lines don't win Superbowl's!
The myth is our defense is cash starved

8th ranked defense in the NFL last season all of the NFL and they improved the personnel for this season
Cant be, I heard here we dont invest in defense and should have traded Martin instead of investing in the offense more

Our offense pass protection did become average, when Smith got hurt, run blocking still one of the best but Dak had to do a lot by himself last year after that Atlanta game we were so exposed, no help from the coaching, with Collins going into his second year at RT and the addition of Williams could be a surprising year as Dak said

LOL.

Eagles fans think Goeddert is the next great TE. But how is that possible using the logic expressed here by the Eagles fan? If Dallas G was so studly why did he last until the 2nd round?
I’m thinking it was because of his position and not him. How many OL go before Williams? And how many TEs went before Dallas? There’s your answer. Glad I could help.

Other teams are under the impression that a defense and receiving corps are important also.
But, but it’s too hard to argue with the results of a great OL! Who can argue with being one of three NFC teams to have NOT played in the NFCCG since 1998? One of only three. That takes skill...

Anyone who argues this was the 8th ranked defense in the NFL makes me chuckle.

They were 8th in yards allowed. Hardly the measure that best dictates defensive prowess.

With the amount of resources invested in this line, it should be the consensus best in the league. Otherwise, we’re wasting a lot more than time.

16. DALLAS COWBOYS
2017 pass-blocking efficiency: 78.5

Best individual PBE: Zack Martin, 98.4

The Dallas Cowboys saw a drop off in production in 2017, having lost Ronald Leary and Doug Free prior to the season and left tackle Tyron Smith missing time due to injury. They allowed 19 sacks, 26 hits and 108 hurries on their 555 passing plays. Despite the cumulative setback, right guard Zack Martin continued his dominant play, as he allowed just 11 total pressures on 531 pass-block snaps, resulting in the highest pass-blocking efficiency among guards at 98.4. Heading into the 2018 season, the Cowboys hope that second-round pick Connor Williams can replace the production that was lost by guard Ronald Leary, as Williams allowed just 27 pressures on 932 pass-block snaps over the last three years at the University Of Texas. Where Williams plays in addition to their potential moves of La’el Collins is another story, and one that should be ironed out before Week 1 if they want to vault up this list.

I agree with much of this. There was a 40% change in the line from the 2016 line for the season and a 60% change for a big part with Smith's injury. That's a lot of change to have to make up for. I've said it many times that to me it made more sense to leave Collins at LG where he already had some starting NFL experience at and find someone else for the RT position and that would have been less change and a no learning curve for Collins as a NFL RT and LG.

In all fairness, Dallas has only had the core of this OL for 4 years.

... and it's 1 of 3 not to have played in two NFCCG. ;) The Cardinals were the last of the single NFCCG appearance teams until 2015 when they got to their 2nd.

I tend to agree! Until we run into a playoff caliber team and Garrett and the staff have to actually coach.
Agree. A quality OLine is great until you run into an opposing top 5 defense/D Coordinator who limit your offensive capabilities. Then what? Our coaching and defense has to step up. We'll that has been a problem for a long time.

The primary issue was that Tyron missed a lot of snaps in 2017.

When Tyron not only was LT a disaster but it make Cooper worse at LG.

If there were rating per game I think it would be obvious.

What the stats don't show is how often the qb held the ball too long, ran into a sack, or refused to move up in the open lane/pocket to throw. Against ATL Dak could've avoided more than half the sacks by taking advantage of that wide open lane
