Cowboys Over-Performed?

But what was the mistake?

Watkins and Ridley weren't the answer.

Cooper and apparently Gallup are.

Who else should they have nabbed? Dez was done.

Are you suggesting that their plan was to fix the problem midway through the season all along??

It clearly didn’t say at all what you argued.

You are claiming the team won more games than they should have and that credit should be given to Garrett.

Except that’s not what the article said at all.

But its because of Garrett that the team won 10 games.

It’s execution when the team loses. It’s coaching when the team wins.

Every team's season turns on 4 or 5 key plays. Identical articles could be written for any team that lands with less than 12 wins.

Not taking into consideration close losses @ WAS, @ HOU skews the argument for the author to discredit the Cowboys season.

The team earned a Division Title and beat a 10 W Seahawks team in the playoffs. It lost to the NFC Champs in the postseason due to one of it's 3 worst Defensive performances of 2018.

This was a legit 10 W club. Can it do better- time will tell. But to predict a complete collapse when TFred returns and emerging players like Gallup, Jayson, LVE, Jarwin gain even more experience is foolish IMO.

No, execution is a by product of the players, if Jason Witten false starts, that's execution. It's not on the coach, if Tyrone Williams gets beat by his man thats execution and not on the coa h. If a player blows a blocking assignment in game that has been practiced all week, that's on the player not the coach, if Zeke hits the wrong hole, that's on Zeke, if Dak throws an int, that's execution andx on Dak, if he fumbles that's on Dak not the coach. I could go on and on.
a lot of that stuff wouldnt happen with better coaching during the week.

I don’t think Earl Thomas will happen now. He’s older, coming off a season ending injury, and will be expensive even if he takes less to go to Dallas. That isn’t a free agent recipe that Dallas likes these days.

It could happen, but I don’t think it will. IMO they’ll spend their money elsewhere... and I agree with you that it’ll be, in large part, spent on their own guys.

I mention Thomas if he comes at a bargain rate. I agree and said if he demands from Dallas what he was demanding in Seattle then I don't see it happening

The nfc east wasn’t a crap division this year. It produced two playoff teams.

The east wasn’t any worse than most divisions in the NFL.

And the Commanders looked to be a 8-8/9-7(easily) team until they lost their starter and backup QB.

Outside of the Giants, the three other teams had legit playoff hopes for a good stretch of the year.

I think they will. Fact is that they were ready to do it last year, and send a second round pick for the privilege. They would undoubtedly have extended Thomas then, so the money was already accounted for.

They can dump Sean Lee tomorrow and have most of the cost of Earl Thomas' 2019 contract accounted for.

I know what you're saying about their recent approach to free agency and you're 100% right. But I also think it's clear that Thomas is an exception to that rule as well.

Yeah I blame losing on execution, and it is i also say winning is execution and ultimately players, in this case of for all the blaming of the coach for losing and then don't give the credit for winning is asinine. You same poster that cry about coach when it's bad, don't give any credit win it's good.

And as evident by this post, it's never his fault with someone like you.

I don't expect Dallas to go high priced FA. I do expect to see Cooper, Dak, Zeke and Dlaw get contracts extended. I think a deal with Earl Thomas could be done if he truly wants to end his career in Dallas but would not think it would be the contract he was asking for in Seattle. We will see.

I agree for the most part, and definitely see Earl Thomas still being in play. They would have traded for and extended him last year, so the money was accounted for. Unless his asking price is crazy, and some team is foolish enough to pay it, I think he's a Cowboy for 2019 and 2020 at least.

The safety market isn't good at all. Nobody is paying for them. The one big contract left - Eric Berry - is proving to be a huge mistake and one the Chiefs are regretting. Nobody else is going to make that mistake and pay a safety big money again, much less to a guy closer to the end of his career and coming off of a second season-ending leg injury.

I firmly believe that his asking price will be reasonable when it comes to being able to live and play in Dallas.

Which is pretty much the life of a troll. Totally agenda driven. The more I follow this forum the less I like it. Unfortunately like much of Social Media a noisy minority’s drives it.
If those first two sentences isn't the pot calling the kettle black I don't know what is.

I'm going by the article too, I don't think it's lucky, but going by the article, it's a heck of a job to win win you're not suppose to.
No you said 8, I never once used anything about the article, if you paid attention, I said the article is bs. Not once did I say what they should win.
No YOU can't read. It clearly said what I argued in the article. You just can't keep up. Because nothing you said is what I said.

Are you using the article or not?

The article's point is that this team wasn't as good as people thought and could revert to non-playoff status next year. The analysis shows that the team likely played like an 8 win team and essentially just got lucky.

Not exactly sure how this is a "positive" article for Garrett. In fact, it likely speaks to the opposite.

so I wasn't the only one who saw that.

No it isn't a basic cliche, film dont lie . A cliche is a Coach saying it's all on him.

LOL. It's amazing the lengths and silliness people will sink to in order to protect what is nothing more than an average to maybe decent NFL head coach.

So again, who the head coach really has no bearing on the outcomes of games. Because that's pretty much what you are saying.

After the fact probably no one .

The mistake was believing that who they picked up in FA was going to be enough to compensate and or better fit Daks skill sets. Surely we recall all the arguments how Austin and Hurd were going to be a better fit for us which turned out to be absurd.

Basically a receivers by committee theory which failed miserably similar to 2015 after we let Murray walk. And we responded using our #1 pick on Elliot.

The more appropriate tactic would have been to let Dez go sooner and address the loss earlier in the draft .
