Cowboys overall performance over the last decade

When I look at the Cowboys over the last decade I see a team that is above average in the regular season, makes the playoffs about 50% of the time and does not perform well in the playoffs. We have been a top 6-8 team in the league at times but not better than that.

That is basically an average of 9-7. Pretty much middle of the pack, or hanging out at the rim in Jerry speak, which keeps fans engaged through out the season.

Texas has been the fastest growing state over the last 30 years. It would be difficult to not have success in that environment, especially in monopoly of a league with 32 teams.(what team has lost value?)

A good Business man would be smart enough to hire a real GM. A good Business man, would sign his players on time, if not early, not just to save money, but to protect his employees from risking injury without a new contract. A good Business man is always learning and trying to improve.

None of this describes Jerry Jones.

Claiming he is successful because Texas has made it easy to be successful. Which is not true at all.

How about the NFL has been far more successful since Jerry came into the NFL.
He has had numerous successful ventures with sponsors for all teams as well the huge growth over the past 45 years. Mainly with TV contracts.
Merchandise sales. Matter of fact, he has not had one failure in marketing for the NFL or his own team.

Where he has failed was getting his team to the SB since 1995 season.
But yet here they are still one of the most recognizable and top values teams in the world.

When you are in one of the biggest and fastest growing markets that is really not that difficult to do.

The NFL was going to settle with the usual small increase from NBC and CBS until Jerry, said, hold on. FOX wants in on the bidding. FOX got the NFC and CBS was out, but wait, CBS bid more, now CBS got the AFC and NBC was out.

NBC wanted back in. So they got SNF eventually.

You do realize the NFL has revenue sharing?

Pretty sure the MLB is Dodgers, Mets, Yankees and Rangers are in the top 10 if not higher.

Yes I know that, and all teams benefit even more from Jerry’s involvement.

That is due to revenue sharing, do you realize that?

It was GM Jethro's bright idea to come up with the Salary Cap. He has preferred to make money over winning for for 3 decades.

Never a solid contender for a championship. If people want to say 2016, it's a bit of a reach, but even I started to have high hopes that year. But that makes it only once. The other 2 times are beyond the 10 year span. Playoffs are less enjoyable when you know you're not going anywhere.

I love Jerry as an Owner, I despise him as a GM.

Jerry is a great Owner.

He is a great ambassador for the NFL.

He is also, arguably, the worst GM in NFL history.

Age old question: How could a great NFL owner not only hire Jerry Jones as his GM, but also keep him in place after 30 years, only making the playoffs 13 times and winning 5 WC games?

Does a great owner keep Jerry Jones as his GM if he’s serious about winning a championship?
 
These are the results of hiring Head Coaches like Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Wade Phillips, Jason Garrett, Big Mac (I know a lot of you disliked him), and Shotty (sorry, I'm just not buying in on him).

Jerry would not hire another Jimmy Johnson if he had the chance. His ego could not handle it.
