Cowboys playoff hopes revolved around the defense being much improved

Currently the Cowboys are 31st ranked defense which is not enough improvement from last years 32nd to make a playoff push.

I think most who touted this defense felt it would be at least closer to average which would mean about 16th ranked defense.

I know it’s still early in season and there’s still time but I’d argue the sense of urgency is of the essence . Unfortunately this game may not be the right matchup.

Texans are in a much more must win than the Cowboys. They have been a consistent playoff team last 3 years and while they also begun 0-3 last year they recovered finishing the season 12-2.

While their offense has been struggling they still have a top 10 caliber defense which could slow our high powered offense enough to exploit our defense .

Next week against Tampa another 0-3 team looks to be much more for the taking at home to bounce back to 2-3. And that’s likely where this season is going hovering around .500 or below with this defense.
Yup.

I said it, and I still believe it. This is a mid tier D, pending whether Parker is a viable DC. So far, he has not been.

The biggest issue with this defense early this season was the desperate need for a pass rush. We have none.

The Porter trade makes no sense at this point IMO when the lack of a pass rush still puts all the pressure on the secondary to cover longer than they should have to.

A trade for a pass rusher would have made a lot more sense.
Especially since we now have to pay him huge bucks.

I never expected the defense to go from 32 to middle of the pack right away. Figured it would slowly move up in the rankings as the season went along. Never expected a top 12 defense.

They have improved a little each week. But now injuries have decimated the secondary. So it will not improve for quite a while.
Dont start with the injury excuse.

The secondary has 0 to do with the lack of a pass rush or run defense.

They need the reduce the rushing yards by opposing quarterbacks. After three weeks, the top 10 defenses allowed and average of 13 yards/game rushing by the QB. The Cowboys have allowed an average 59 yards/game rushing by the QB. That's a difference of 46 yards/game. Improving that one stat would move them to somewhere in the 20s.

As far as passing yards the Cowboys are a respectable ninth with 623 yards.

I did not use it as an excuse.
But actually it does have to do with it. Team game. Don't allow the receiver to be open. And the pass rush gets that extra second to get to the QB.

With AZ playing better and having a chance to see this clown show play 3 games, please explain to me how this team goes 9-5 from here on out? I assume 10-7 gets us in. Besides Titans and Commodes where are the guaranteed wins?

Kids - watch this week. Houston is going to stomp them.

How do you spell “football dumb”? J-O-N-E-S

So we have traded for a CB who wants to get paid and has been sitting out with a potential fake injury to aid his negotiations.

And so Pittsburg bailed on him basically. Enter Jethro Jone$. lol

You threw in the towel too early. The defense is slowly getting better and Porters going to hopefully help. See how silly you look for giving up so early?
...IDK about everyone else, but I saw big improvements in Ravs game. Making critical stops was huge.

Shottty doesn't go white noise, we win.

I know defense numbers dont look good, but they are coming together.
