Well...

Better than Ealy. Moore, Lawrence and Mayowa have had better seasons than he has in this league if we are using sacks as the comparasion.

IF he really only had 5, then that is not impressive in the least. If he cant beat out our DE's then he should probably just retire. I might be more inclined to just let Taco play and learn on the job.

The claim shows that they took a flyer knowing that they probably wouldn't get him.

It shows clear interest. That's what it shows. And unlike fans, not someone reluctance based on him "not being better than what we have."

Charles Tapper hasn't done anything in this league. We don't know what he is...we know what Ealy is? A guy with a career high of 5 sacks playing on some gold defensive lines. We have got more production from that from the likes of Jeremy Mincey and George Selvie so I would rather see if we can get that from Tapper, a guy we have invested a draft pick in rather than give those snaps to an underachiever.

They also "invested a draft pick" in Ryan Russell, and that didn't stop them from quickly pulling the plug. And Russell wasn't perpetually injured either.

I know one thing, if the Panthers won that Super Bowl, Kony Ealy was the MVP. Let me know when Charles Tapper gets his first NFL sack.

Don't tell me that Ealy isn't "better" than a guy who's never done a thing but get hurt. Repeatedly.

Ealy's "5 sacks" per season is 5 more than Tapper has ever had.

When Belichick cuts somebody I am automatically suspicious. When they are good, he usually doesnt want to pay them, but they never got to that point.

Belichick cut Jonathan Cooper too, and he looks like our best option to start at left guard.

Waiting for the lets bring a 35 year old situational pass rush dude thread. I would take flyers on guys that can play every down as opposed to a guy that only comes in 3rd and long.

I am a long way from sold on Cooper.

Who's a better option?

I know who played great with the starters against the Colts, when they moved the ball up and down the field at will.

The same guy who graded out as the Cowboys' best offensive lineman for that game.

If you have a better option, I'm all ears.

I cant be the only one. The Cowboys have tried to hand the job to Chaz all pre season, but that darn old trainer just cant seem to get him out of his office.

Making a claim shows they are willing to take a flyer for free---as long as they don't have to give up anything.

Tapper also hasn't even played a game.

This isn't about Tapper though. I could care less about Tapper...if we replaced Ealy with Tapper, I would've been perfectly fine. Neither player is going to be a regular part of the rotation once the suspensions are over. I am glad they didn't spend a draft pick though on a guy that's been an epic disappointment. I could care less about a Super Bowl and neither does any team in the league...you judge a player by his body of work, not one game.

Yes they have. Mistakenly.

He's only reinforced what myself and many others have said. He can't stay healthy, and therefore it doesn't matter how good he might or might not be. And you can't disrupt a lines continipuity and cohesion by putting a player out there that can't stay out there.

He's strictly a backup option at best at this point.

Other than a roster spot.

Sure you do. But just don't claim that he's "not any better than what we have" when that's obviously not the case.

If that is your opinion, so be it.
He isnt really. But that really doesnt mean dont bring him in either. If you cant one guy that can give you 10 sacks, have a bunch of guys that can give you 4 to 6. Kony would be somewhere with Irving and Charlton at stage in there careers

How many plays has Charles Tapper ever made?

Other than being perpetually injured.

This team is still looking for answers at pass rush, let's not kid ourselves.

lol stash but true
This claim attempt shows that they're not.

Judging by sacks? It's not an opinion.

He has a career high of 5...we have 3 veteran defensive ends on our team with that much and we have also got that much production from journeymen just the past few years.

He has also played on more talented defensive lines...he's just not very good.

He played DE in the Patriots 3-4 until they went 4-3 last season. When drafted he was projected as an LDE or a 3-4 DE. The Cowboys already have a plethora of LDEs (Crawford, Irving, Taco, DLaw - though they're trying Taco at RDE).

I just don't see a spot for him.

What is a roster spot right now?

Ok they can drop our backup kicker to let Ealy come in for a week and see what he has...you lose nothing. Claiming Ealy doesn't mean he's on the 53. For all we know, Ealy may be available again in two weeks.

And Tapper may be better...he's never played a down yet so neither of us know if he has the potential to get a whole 5 sacks a year.

Jones is a moron if he wouldnt give up a 7th rounder for him.

Seems strange to me that no one offered the Pats a conditional seventh at least? Guess that would be an issue cap wise---Anyone know?

Keep your eye on him .........Jets are loaded at DL position. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if they release him before the season starts.
