I cant be the only one. The Cowboys have tried to hand the job to Chaz all pre season, but that darn old trainer just cant seem to get him out of his office.

You're not the only one. I like Cooper fine (I liked him a lot coming out), but he's a journeyman placeholder with an injury history.

Seems strange to me that no one offered the Pats a conditional seventh at least? Guess that would be an issue cap wise---Anyone know?

Remember he's a vet, I think his salary is guaranteed by whatever teams he's on for the first game of the season. Other words if he's released by the Jets this week, he'll likely clear waiver coz teams would wanna wait until after the first game to offer a contract. That way they are not on the hook for his entire salary if doesn't work out ..........not 100% sure of this but I think it's correct.

He still has one year of his rookie contract just like DeMarcus Lawrence.

The guy had a nice Super Bowl showing against the Broncos while in Carolina... I like his potential, damn I wanted Dallas to get him.

See this I don't get to be honest. If the Patriots waive him why in the world does he have to go to whatever team has the highest waiver priority?

I think these guys should be able to pick where they want to go if they're waived. Maybe that's just me.

What is a roster spot right now?

Ok they can drop our backup kicker to let Ealy come in for a week and see what he has...you lose nothing. Claiming Ealy doesn't mean he's on the 53. For all we know, Ealy may be available again in two weeks.

It shows a clear interest. And the fact that the team does not agree with the position that "he's not better than whatever we have".

And Tapper may be better...he's never played a down yet so neither of us know if he has the potential to get a whole 5 sacks a year.

And there's every bit the chance that Tapper is worse, or worse yet, once again too injured to contribute. If nothing else, Ealy plays.

I am not hanging my season on the cuts of other teams, they may be able to provide a bandaid for a couple games. Anything else is a pipe dream. We are going to struggle from the DE position and the LB spot, the suspensions are killers and avoidable for the most part so you could say our wounds are for the most part self inflicted. We are going to be trusting guys we have not used extensively and we all know the results that usually follow that kind of strategy. Luckily we have the NFL coach of the year and I am sure he will steer us clear of any real dangers.

Maybe they just think he is better than Darnell Leslie and wanted to see if he can earn a spot in a week to fill in during the suspensions..

I get what you're saying and I'm sure you get what I'm saying. Maybe they want to replace someone like Tapper, maybe they seeking a body to use for a couple weeks, especially since Lenny Jones appears to be hurt. They can likely afford to add a defensive end to the 53 without parting ways with Tapper.

I agree the Cowboys should be hunting for someone to upgrade the DE position..heck any position on the defense for that matter. I just don't believe Ealy is that guy...I think he is just a player most fans have heard of. Most are not even aware of his lack of regular season success.

If it comes down to renting an average pass rusher for a season or seeing what we have in a young guy(if he can stay healthy) for 3 seasons...I'll choose that young guy.

Yeah, I'm not looking at Ealy as any world beater, just another possible option for the platoon, especially for the first several weeks given the suspensions.

Yes they have. Mistakenly.

He's only reinforced what myself and many others have said. He can't stay healthy, and therefore it doesn't matter how good he might or might not be. And you can't disrupt a lines continipuity and cohesion by putting a player out there that can't stay out there.

He's strictly a backup option at best at this point.
Old saying rings true...the most important ability is availability.

There's a good chance he would have gone to the Jets anyway; his cousin and former Mizzou teammate, Sheldon Richardson, is on that roster.

I know it is easy to say Dallas should have offered a 7th round pick, but before you know it you enter a draft with 4 picks. I know Dallas will have a lot of compensatory picks coming up but they already gave one up for Woods.

There is a difference and wanting to take a look at a player via waiver than giving up a late round pick. I would be very conservative in giving up any future pick. I would imagine at the cut day, there is going to be a lot of opportunity to either gain a pick or give up a pick in case of a guy you really like and could help you out right away.

Nobody gave a 7th for this guy. It wasn't just Dallas.

And flipping a pick for a player who won't upgrade an already weak position group makes zero sense. A free look is one thing. Giving up consideration is entirely different.

Too bad they didn't work out one of those fake conditional picks just to keep him out of the AFC.

IIRC we viewed Lawrence to be more valuable than Kony due to D-Law potentially being a RDE.
Outside of that, does anyone else recall what the Cowboys thought of Kony? Other than passing on drafting him.

That was basically it. They thought Lawrence could play the right side while Ealy was more suited to the left, so they traded up for Lawrence.
