Cowboys | R. Williams left out of specific package

Roy played the third-most snaps of anyone on our defense last season, behind only Ware and Hamlin.
Yeah, but this year I'd likely add in Newman and Henry to that list if they can stay healthy. Definitely Newman because he doesn't come off on the goalline and short yardage packages.

Our "nickel" was really just our "dime safety" package.

I guess you could think of it in terms of our "dime safety" being our nickel and our "dime corner" being our dime.

:lmao2: :lmao:

this is good as long as Roy doesnt start complaining which i dont expect him to since he admitted that he was scared when teams would go after him which sadly Roy is gonna be a lot when you are on the field. I personally like the Ware-Tank-Hatcher-Spencer line! mostly because they are all beasts and i expect Ellis to start slowing down sometime soon even though i hope he doesnt obviously. Spencer is the player that i expect to really emerge opposite Ware and be our most improved player!

What do you mean "now"? Wasn't there a lot of talent there last year?

Pacman, draft at CB and Henry to FS

Roy was benched a lot last year situationally in passing situations late in season.

Well, to my knowledge we didn't run a single true nickel package last year.

Our 3-3 defense was technically a nickel (five defensive backs).

Also, I'm pretty sure we had a few cases early in the season when Burnett and Carpenter were the nickel linebackers, with Hamlin and Roy as the deep safeties and three cornerbacks on the field. I'll be reviewing those games in a few days, so I'll see if I can spot that package.

Roy was almost always on the field in passing situations. The vast majority of times he wasn't on the field were first and second downs, when we stayed with a base 3-4 front. (We certainly didn't keep guys like Akin Ayodele and Bradie James on the field in "passing situations.") There were many times when Roy was out for first-and-10, then came back for second and third downs, or out for first and second downs, then came back for third down. He was almost never out on third downs, especially third-and-long.

Newman was benched too remember. Reeves started over him.

Yeah, I figured there might have been a couple that slipped by, so I heavily qualified my statement. :D

Are we talking starts now?

When they move him to the bench for good then we can give a sigh of relief. Roy is the weak link on the defense and the entire NFL knows it.

Newman was benched due to Injury, not performance. A huge difference.

Teams actually go away from Newman because he is the best CB on the team. And why not, last year with Reeves and Williams on the field it was just too easy...

You should seek Bob Sacamno for this, its what he does

I don't tink Roy minds this at all

he said sometimes last year he wished they didn't throw the ball at him

This is not what Roy said, by the way.

I got to call it like I see it, as a fan! I have been behind RW all the way but now it is time to look in another direction!

And this isn't 'behind RW all the way.'

This just makes sense, I dont see it as a knock on Roy Williams. The Commanders just took 2-WR and 1-TE with there first three picks. Jim Zorn is going to run his version of Mike Holmgrim (sp) offense. We all know Philly throws a ton and the Giants with Shockey is a difficult matchup for any team. With more and more teams spreading it out you need pure cover players on the field as much as possible.

I can tell you that we averaged 2.44 cornerbacks per play.

That interesting, because I noticed when Hamlin and Roy were on the field we averaged 1.44 safeties per play.

WHO cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am beyond sick of this.....this is a team...with 53 players....the cowboys, their history, the future.....IS BIGGER THAN ONE PERSON!!

NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF FOOTBALL HAS A SS MADE OR BROKE A TEAM

SO WHAT, HE IS ON THE BENCH.....WHY IS THIS NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!
