Romo can't be placed on PUP as he has practiced and played preseason. He most likely will be on IR with designated to be returned.

It wouldn't shock me if Romo ends up on the PUP, then IR later in the season. They go with Dak all season to see what they have and get him the exp. In the offseason Romo is faced with a retire or be cut scenario. Romo retires, since no other teams are going to pony up much money for him at this age.

By going with Dak all season they can determine if he's the future or if they should consider taking a QB with an early pick in the 2017 draft.
