COWBOYS NOTES
Carpenter happy to remain with team
By MAC ENGELStar-Telegram staff writer

IRVING -- When the Miami Dolphins made a trade with the Dallas Cowboys for tight end Anthony Fasano before the draft, they also wanted a linebacker, and it wasn't Akin Ayodele.

According to an NFL source, the Dolphins wanted Bobby Carpenter, but the Cowboys weren't willing to part with the 2006 first-round draft pick. So Dallas included Ayodele in the deal.

Jerry Jones would have been a moron to agree to trade former 1st and 2nd round draft picks for a 4th rounder.

I'm glad they didn't.

I'd rather keep an unknown and trade away a known mediocre player.

Not to mention I thought that the cap cost of moving Carpenter was prohibitive.

I'd like to see him get a year to learn behind Zach Thomas and see what he can become.

I'd have to assume it would have been a higher pick if Carpenter was in the deal. Taking him out probably made it a 4th rounder.

Agreed. No way would we trade a former 1st and 2nd pick just for a 4th. Now if they were talking their 1st next year for Carp and Fasano, then jump on it considering it would probably be a top five pick. :D

wrong.......miami would have some miracle season, win like 9 or 10 games, get us stuck in the 20s again.....and then in 2009, when they have their own pick, go back to sucking......

cause that is the karma we have.....remember the bills and browns trades...

We traded the right LB.

At some point in time this summer I fully expected the Cowboys to cut Ayodele anyway.

Look.

BP is part of the reason Carpenter has failed. The fact he'd want him now only means Carpenter can play and he can be salvaged and BP has figured out a way to play him.

I only wish our coaches would take the same attitude.

All the more reason..at this point, I'd like us to close off the Dallas-to-Miami connection.

Hopefully everybody who wants to follow BP and Ireland there have gotten their wish.

Let's just move on.

The only other player worth discussing in Miami is Jason Taylor.

And the closer it gets to TC, the less valuable he is in any trade as he would be missing valuable time with a new team to learn their defense.

So maybe we could do a deal on him but that's it.

Beyond any interest in that, I think Mr. BP is on his own from here on out without anymore contributions from us and I think we've gotten rid of all the deadwood we can there.

The devil you know is better than the devil you don't.

Or, mediocre players you know than mediocre players you don't.

well if the deal was for the same 4th rounder then it is obvious that we wouldn't make that deal

It must be ego, arrogance, or stubbornness, because it sure isn't common sense. Sometimes people need to realize they made a mistake and move on.

My guess is they want to give Carpenter a shot this year at splitting snaps with Thomas before they give up on him. He has had no major injuries since being here and is still young and in good shape. He has had no attitude problems or off the field issues. He has the right size and strength for 3-4 ILB - just needs to work on play recognition and technique to take on blockers.

Better to give him a chance then give him away for next to nothing at this stage.

Wade all but said Carp was going to get his chance this summer when he admitted the coaches screwed up last summer.

Man that really bothers me...everyone so quick to throw Carp under the bus but continually ignore the coaches admission. This is a major error in coaching, something not to be expected from such a veteran presence.
