Why not? That is the standard that everyone used on Carpnter. His second year and he could not start ahead of James or Ellis, so he is a bust.

I just don't understand the Carpenter hate here. He played well his first year when Ellis was out. Last year he got hurt in camp, changed positions, and didn't get the chance he deserved. Wade's words.

Folks gotta stop and look at what they are saying and not be hyporitical.

Agreed.

COWBOYS NOTES
Carpenter happy to remain with team
By MAC ENGELStar-Telegram staff writer

IRVING -- When the Miami Dolphins made a trade with the Dallas Cowboys for tight end Anthony Fasano before the draft, they also wanted a linebacker, and it wasn't Akin Ayodele.

According to an NFL source, the Dolphins wanted Bobby Carpenter, but the Cowboys weren't willing to part with the 2006 first-round draft pick. So Dallas included Ayodele in the deal.

I'd like to see what he's got before we trade a 1st round pick. But it would have been karmic justice if Miami had traded it's 2nd rounder for Carpenter.

The other possibility, which I hope isn't true, is that Parcells knows Carp is a bust, and he thought he could pick up a good Special Teams cover guy in the deal...maybe they all lit up with smiles when Akin, an actual starter, was added.

I hate to imagine that possibility. I'm pulling for Carp to come on and at least be as solid as Brady James, who, by the way, looked like a bust and took a while to get on the field.
Wayne, I don't often disagree with you on stuff, but no coach is going to trade for a player they know is a bust. That's just plain silly amigo.

Look.

BP is part of the reason Carpenter has failed. The fact he'd want him now only means Carpenter can play and he can be salvaged and BP has figured out a way to play him.

I only wish our coaches would take the same attitude.

All the more reason..at this point, I'd like us to close off the Dallas-to-Miami connection.

Hopefully everybody who wants to follow BP and Ireland there have gotten their wish.

Let's just move on.

The only other player worth discussing in Miami is Jason Taylor.

And the closer it gets to TC, the less valuable he is in any trade as he would be missing valuable time with a new team to learn their defense.

So maybe we could do a deal on him but that's it.

Beyond any interest in that, I think Mr. BP is on his own from here on out without anymore contributions from us and I think we've gotten rid of all the deadwood we can there.

Im so glad you have such intimate knowledge about BP, Carp, and our LB situation. Thank you so much for sharing your priceless knowledge as to why our former first round pick hasnt seen the field much.

It must be ego, arrogance, or stubbornness, because it sure isn't common sense. Sometimes people need to realize they made a mistake and move on.

for several years..

Romo was not even considered anything more than a 2nd or 3rd QB and the staff wouldn't play him.

Finally, he gets played and he becomes a player for us.

Without the opportunity in live action and under the pressure of having to perform under pressure..it's pretty impossible to know with some players if they have it or not.

I think they finally give Carp a good hard look and we get to see him play good or bad and then we can all let that be the deciding factor.

I just don't think you draft a guy like this, pay him all this money and just never even put him on the field in games to see what is going to happen.

That's just insane.

At some point, you have to say "heh, we scouted him, we worked him out before the draft and he was fine. Let's see if that player exists. Play him."
