RELEASED Cowboys Release DE Damontre Moore

Can you clear this up on Cedric Thonrton?

Was his pay average and he was below average?

Or was he average and his pay was above average?

Or was he below average and paid above average?

I'm just not sure!

He is probably the average to above average.

He keeps talking about the cost, but rarely what went wrong.

Thornton, per Stephen Jones, was just because signing free agents is hard, gosh darn it.

"You're trying to project them from one system to the other. That can be difficult. But we just felt like it was time and we found a way to kind of upgrade that situation and really get a player in here that has a little bit more base in the middle there in terms of what we did in claiming Brian Price. And just felt like he could help us more in terms of what we're trying to get accomplished on defense. But Cedric, he's a good person. He represents all you want. He played hard, a lot of things the right way. It just turned out wasn't the perfect fit for our system."

Stephen Jones has stated that he feels FA is bad because you pay good players like they are great, average players like they are good, below average like they are average.

Well, we paid three below average players like they were average. He violated his own principle.

Really only Thorton got average pay.

4M is way way down the list when looking at annual averages for CBs.

Paea got 1-year, 1.96M.

If you decide to put away your pitch fork and lynch rope and try to be a little objective, you can see that the FO is trying to go about building this team the right way. Yes they have bombed on their free agent signings, and they really need to improve in this area, but thank the high heavens they didn't break the bank in these signings and going forward will not affect them from signing other free agents. This FO has done a really good job in the draft the past several years. Just going by their past several drafts, I'm confident this team will continue to improve their overall talent base.

It is only the "right way" if the talent evaluation is "the right way". I am not convinced that has changed at all and that is the most important part.

And actually, it may be a case where it does affect them from signing other free agents. They may be able to afford them because they have cleared their cap deficit, but if Dallas is known as a team that is not going to play in free agency, you will see them continue to pick up scraps after the bones have been picked clean.

We'll see, but it seems to me that Dallas is used more as a pawn by agents to get their clients on the radar versus Dallas being a destination for prime free agents any more.

Yeah, but he's "a good person!"

The amount of Micah Hyde rueage is hilarious. You’d think we missed out on an all-pro.

Going forward, Dallas has a nice, young, core to work with and if they continue to improve I do not see a problem with them regarding signing free agents.

Nah, we missed out on a good S who has a manageable contract and also much better than our starting SS and would have made us a better team.

And yet again someone brings up this idea that people wanted Dallas to "break the bank" in FA.

A concept few have said they wanted to do.

You win some, you lose some. He’s been solid, not worth losing sleep over

He's been better than solid. Leads the NFL in interceptions and has been a key member of a Top 5 scoring defense.

You are right, you win some and you lose some. We lost many this offseason and Hyde is just an example of the type of guys that aren't pricey (like the Gilmore's, etc, of the world), are very effective and we decide we don't want for the likes of the Nolan Carroll's and Demontre Moore's of the world.

I hope and pray this offseason isn't another offseason of similar thinking in FA.

I keep seeing around here that when a draft pick does not go well, eh, no big deal, the draft is just a crap shoot anyway.

If that is to be believed, what you are basically telling me is that you believe Dallas is lucky to be throwing snake eyes more often now?

Eh, win some, lose some in FA. And the draft? Well that is just a crap shoot anyways.

Just cross your fingers and check your brain at the door.

Do we really need to reminisce about the 09 draft, to fully appreciate the drafts the Cowboys have conducted since? Did the Cowboys not draft three perennial pro bowlers on the Oline" What about last years draft and the three secondary players this year? Are my Cowboy blue tinted glasses deceiving me? That seems like some very solid drafts over the years.

You'd think that we would have improved or maintained a 13-3 team with some quality FA acquisitions after jettosing a bunch of starters. Mensa project here.

2016's draft could be generational. That does not establish a trend of being solid any more than the 2015 draft indicates we really are below average. The three DBs are actually two, Awuzie can't get on the field to even be evaluated.

Awuzie has shown flashes in the brief time he's been on the field. If you cannot see the talent this FO has drafted over the years, I can't really help you.
