THis team has no intent on drafting a QB next year unless its late. And at that point is he really anything more than Howell or MIlton or Rush or any of these other guys? Sure there's a chance he's Dak pt. 2...but he's more than likely Stephen McGee or Mike White pt 2.
Exactly. That’s why holding onto Milton seemed like the best option. I don’t understand this move. He was cheap and he was progressing. I don’t know if they’re in denial about Dak being a human and he ages like the rest of us but Dak can’t play forever and having someone in the wings with potential was nice.

What an odd move.

So they cut the backup QB with the better arm, who has improved his touch, and who can use his legs to get outside the pocket or run for positive yards? Yet, they keep the backup QB who struggles half the time with his passes, struggles when rushed, and has a hard time avoiding pressure while in the pocket?

This only makes sense if we intend on drafting a qb next year. In what is a good draft for quarterback.

Have to have some plan after dak. His contract is up after next year I believe. At which point he’d be almost 35.
Dak is due for $75m in 2027. He will get a restructure or extension next offseson just so we can get new contracts for Pickens, Fluornoy and Overshown.

If we cut him after the 2027 season, it comes with a $131m dead cap hit

The cowboys are probably going to have Dak counting against their cap until at least 2030 and that’s if they bite the bullet and don’t keep restructuring him every year

There is no plan after Dak. Dak is the plan.

Bottom line, the Cowboys don’t *need* or even *want* Daks future replacement to be on the team because he will never play unless Dak has a career ending injury.

They *need* a bus driver like Howell or Rush.

Just heard on 105.3 he was released??

Who do you trust more if Prescott goes out for a couple of games? A proven starter or a proven unknown with potential...im going with the proven starter everyday... especially for this year.

Well we cannot believe anything Schotty says. Here is a quote recently published about his assessment of Joe Milton. Playing at a high level. So you dump him for a loser QB who threw as many ics as he did TDs last season. What a joke.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer praised his growth as a player last week.
"I think you see Joe learning is he's playing quarterback. And he's playing quarterback at a high level," Schottenheimer said. "He's checking the ball down. He's making blitz adjustments. He's solving problems. He's reading from his first, second to third, and even fourth progression at times. It takes time. You don't stop learning as a quarterback. The only way to do it is to play. I'm really, really proud of him."

It is not surprising; he is a good athletic but not a good quarterback and is too inconsistent so no team would want to give a pick fo
Could a team trade for him & put him on practice squad? I'm not talking rules, I'm talking if he didn't want to be #3 here, how would he react if another team did that? Probably some teams would have liked to have him but didn't want to be forced to roster him without option for PS.

No, we kept clearly the better backup option for this year, and it's all about this year.
Let me guess? You love Dak. So any threat to his trough is bad. But Howell is a career backup with no starting potential. Dak is an old rusty QB who can't run. We need a young prospect...he looked pretty damn good this preseason. He was on the team...with no contractual way out. This is DUMB.

The rumor is that he did ask to be released and if that is true then there is nothing that the Cowboys can do
That's the only way I won't knock it. Because that means his feelings got hurt he wasn't the backup so yeah he's not mentally buying it get all the "me" guys out. IF that's the case. I haven't heard that but i'd certainly understand it

I wonder if the cut timing is strategic. Once teams had waiver claims in for other guys it reduces the chances he’s claimed?

LOL, if anybody here knows me, I'm one of Dak's biggest detractors. Never played well once in a big game to date. He has his roster now, so this year is completely on him.

Why stress over backup quarterbacks? Guys that are 26 and still aren't starting are not to be worried about.
