They were speculating Milton got told he was the 3rd stringer and Milton asked to be released. There was a little back an forth about what team would want a 3rd string QB that has been on 2 teams in the last 3 yrs. Maybe Milton believes more in his skills than the NFL coaches do. They dont think he will be back on the practice squad.

I dont like cutting him though. He has upside and looked like he worked alot in the offseason. Down the line he could have had some real value either here on the field or in the market. I think Howell is better right now, but Id rather have cut him

I'd be shocked if 31 other teams pass on him. On some team they've decided "that guy" is not on their roster so why not churn.

The odds are that Joe Milton is not a franchise QB. But since he's got great upside and promise, you keep him. Just like both Belichick and Parcells kept 4 QBs in order to produce Brady and Romo. It's so lazy to have a comfy QB room and kumbaya instead of a young hungry aggressive guy who you need to corral and coach hard.

My issue is that they kept 3 QBs - a stretch given how much Dak makes and the competition at other roster spots - and then released him the next day? He was damn near the #2 a week ago and now you RELEASE him?

Make no mistake: During the season we won't be talking about the cardinals running back we picked up or the steelers scrapheap tackle we picked up. It will be our lack of options at QB when Dak gets dinged. Every year the odds go up dramatically especially given Dak's style of play. I think we are all counting our chickens before they hatch with this "GOTI" nonsense. We need to have one eye on the future. This was shortsighted IMO.

It's interesting. Definitely feels like they are no longer interested in projects or people who might not live up to expectations. This one is a bit of a head scratcher though. So we'll see what happens I guess. I'm also wondering if there was something else about Milton that Schotty just didn't like if he is getting more player control.

This only makes sense if we intend on drafting a qb next year. In what is a good draft for quarterback.

Have to have some plan after dak. His contract is up after next year I believe. At which point he’d be almost 35.

And we'll still owe him about $150M.

This was a move that took moxie, and is unusual for the JonesBoys. I know some are upset at this, but was Milton really a breakout star QB ready to happen? I don't think we are losing out on the next superstar QB in the making.

I don't know if i'd say atrocious it was discouraging because I saw some things I thought we had gotten away from. That being said Milton outplayed Howell in the first two games vs one. The last game shouldn't have him be qb3.

I am sure it is all about their preseason performance against other scrubs who don't make an NFL roster and has nothing to do with how they do at practice against the first team defense.

Milton did so well we could not trade him for a 7th round pick.
