How can you be that far off in your talent evaluation??
Would you rather they keep Houston and waive Gallup?

They also were sending a message to Tolbert and his poor practice habits. Some are saying the light went on for Tolbert these last two weeks.

Houston was a 2 game placeholder who may make it to the practice squad to further develop
Undrafted free agent.
So if anything, they did well in bringing him in, as he was better than expected.

If that's true, cut Tolbert now.

Tough transition, but you cannot gain that transition if you're not on the playing field., .you cannot gain the necessary game experience if you are gameday inactive

and Houston was a rookie too,.. and if his absence wasn't injury related, and he was as regarded and valued per Cowboys draft board,
it's concerning that an undrafted rookie who was just let go off the roster, had already made strides ahead of Tolbert.

Assuming he's healthy enuff to play, it will be very interesting to see if Tolbert makes the active on Game day list, now with Houston gone.

1 Lamb
2 Gallup
3 Noah B
4Turpin
5 Fehoko
6 Tolbert
7 .. Washington ?

It probably will depend on if Gallup is ready to go. Turpin and Fehoko are both on special teams. I originally assumed that Tolbert would be active over Houston as the backup punt returner but was wrong about that. We won't take more than five receivers to games because of roster needs elsewhere. Tolbert may just receive the Fehoko treatment this year.

As far as a UDFA being active ahead of Tolbert, I don't think too much should be made of it. Rookies develop at different rates. Tolberrt showed promise in the preseason as a third-round rookie. That's good enough for now. We expect too much of rookies. When one does step up as Houston did, that should be looked at as a good thing, not a bad thing that he did it over a drafted rookie.

Wow, and he's the guy who beat out our 3rd round pick for a roster spot. Nice pick Jerry!

Maybe so. I was shocked when I heard it was his practice habits and prep--not his talent--that kept him off the game-day roster for two weeks.
Someone was sending a message, but it should not have been necessary.
A 3rd rounder might get that chance though

If a third-rounder from a crap school can't get motivated to practice hard for the highest profile NFL team in the league, he's garbage that needs to be released.

To be fair Houston was penciled in at the start of training camp as only the 6th best receiver (basically practice squad). 2 injuries and the #5 being inconsistent in practice is the only reason why he saw some playing time (he basically lucked out and now he's back to where he should be).

Rush looked like hot garbage in preseason, but looked serviceable in the real game, so maybe they figured they'd give Houston a shot, since we were short on receivers anyway.
Just everbody, fans, coaches, always trying to find a way to keep Brown down....lol
But Brown wasn't having any part of that nonsense, made the Houston cut easy.
Brown reminds me a lot Mohamed Sanu, very similar attributes when you compare the two.

I can see that. Might be why they didn't resign Wilson.

Because Houston was a starter or rotation player in last 2 games while Ridgeway was inactive.

If both 100% healthy, you keep the ones who actually play.

The point is Houston was waived just like Ridgeway the same week. If they waived Houston first then he would be on the practice squad where he is now and they could still have Ridgeway, a 5th round pick who is missed by Dan Quinn.

LOL

I'm sure DQ would miss other defenders more.

That's why DQ agreed to cut him.

He got regular season ZERO reps.
