I realize that there is the offseason propaganda thing that goes around Dallas but let's be honest, did we ever get hype articles about Nashon Wright? I don't recall if we did.

Overall, there are a few signs that this isn't a bad draft class. After last year, its a welcome relief. Out of the class, I wouldn't be surprised if 6 of them are on the active game day roster getting snaps.
We did.

We also got them early last off-season with Eric Scott.

I don’t knock posting the article, but just noting these fluff pieces are standard fare during this part of the off-season.

It was post OTA’s and mini-camps so there’s context behind the article. Plus, it’s all we have at this time of the year.

It is all BS fluff. Pretty sure we can all fairly accurately predict who will start as a rookie and who will be a rotational player and who will not play hardly at all.

i really don't understand how we always tend to find these late round DB gems but suck so much with our 2nd and 3rd rounders
I’ve asked this myself. Bland was a 5th and set an NFL record this season. Who knows what Carson can do. I’m hopeful for him. But back to your question. I’ve asked myself this several hundred times. How can we bust on so many 1 and 2 rounders but keep finding gems in late rounds and UDFA? It’s maddening.

I was hoping all offseason they would add another vet CB or even look at bringing back Gilmore, but have to admit that I feel better and better about this unit the closer we get to camp. Honestly it probably comes down to the health of Diggs. If he is 100% or at least close to it this unit should be pretty good. If not we may see some struggles. I love Bland but we saw last year, especially in the Seattle game that hes probably more a #2 corner unless he can take another step forward.
Gilmore is very very good. When Bland struggle with a couple top notch receivers last year Gilmore stymied them big time!
Jourdan Lewis is a good tackler, and tries hard, but for much of his career he was the weak link on D when playing the 3rd corner. Gilmore would make our CB’s the strength of our team by far!!!!!!

I want to throw this in about Carson. He’s one of my pet cats going into this season. I think I’ve narrowed my pet cats down to Carson, Beebe, Guyton, and Lance.

What got me really excited about Carson was after the draft he did an interview or a 5 minute montage training interview/highlight reel. But he talked about his weekly regiment and how he reads defenses. He also talked about studying film and using that to read defenses. So my first impression was he’s a smart, dedicated player. I’m intrigued by smart dedicated players. We have had a lot of talented dumb players (Randy Gregory comes to mind) and that doesn’t work well in the playoffs.

I’m excited about this dude and was before this thread. Hopefully he becomes a surprise gem for us.

According to Harris, though, Juanyeh Thomas, Markquese Bell and Carson (!) all saw snaps with the first-team defense in spring practices
This could be one of the strongest safety rooms in a while. There are lots of young solid competition and Hooker is a good mentor.

The youngest NFL team to win the SB was the Seattle Seahawks at 32 years and 95 days.

Not 100% sure what you are getting at here. Yes, the 2014 Seahawks were the youngest team (avg. age) to win the Super Bowl but that was at 26 years, 5 months, and 5 days (not 32 years). As a matter of fact every recent Super Bowl winning team but two were all more than 4 years younger than the number you have there. Only two teams with rosters over 28 were the 2019 Pats and 2021 Bucs (Tom Brady teams).

Now if you mean age of the team itself, the Seahawk franchise was 38 years old when it won its first Superbowl (The Cowboys were 12 years old when they did it).

Sorry my friend, just confused by that statement.

This is kind of a surprise but nice to hear.

In a recent mailbag article for Cowboys dot com, team reporters Nick Harris and Mickey Spagnola discussed what role 2021 fifth-round pick Israel Mukuamu could have this season. Per Harris, Mukuamu worked almost exclusively with the second-team defense in OTAs and minicamp.

Cowboys fans would like Mukuamu to get more run as a nickel cornerback after he locked down Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin in the playoffs two years ago. At 6-4 and 205 pounds with the strength and explosiveness of a safety, Mukuamu could seemingly line up against wide receivers and tight ends.

According to Harris, though, Juanyeh Thomas, Markquese Bell and Carson (!) all saw snaps with the first-team defense in spring practices.

Carson's inclusion on the first-team is notable for multiple reasons. It's unclear what other cornerbacks practiced with the starters but it sounds like the Wake Forest product is no worse than fourth or fifth on the depth chart. That's an impressive start for a rookie, let alone a day three pick.

Carson was widely viewed as a top-100 overall prospect in the 2024 class. The Cowboys selected him with the 174th overall pick in round five, which speaks to the value of the pick. With ideal length to disrupt passes, a high football IQ and great tackling instincts, Carson is the perfect development CB for defensive backs coach Al Harris.

Whether that translates to Carson playing a ton in year one remains to be seen, but he could push for a significant role with a strong training camp and preseason. There's nobody proven on the depth chart behind starters Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland and Jourdan Lewis, and he's clearly leapfrogged Mukuamu in the pecking order.

From where we're standing, Carson is on a level playing field with 2023 fifth-round pick Eric Scott Jr. and 2021 third-round pick Nahshon Wright. He might even have a leg up on his new teammates.
Mukuamu is behind Thomas and Bell at safety, who are behind Hooker and Wilson. Really, the only players we can say for sure are ahead of Carson at corner are Diggs, Bland and Lewis and Diggs is in rehab. I mean, beyond the top three, we have Wright, Scott and Goodwin and we may hope that none of those ever see the field (jury's out on Scott).
