Cowboys SB Drought - 2025 Assessment

I think this is a reasonably fair assessment of the Cowboys in 2025. I disagree with some comments about the 2024 defense though. It was not just the Micah Parsons injury. They were banged up at CB and were playing some pretty awful backups to backups that really hurt them. And it wasn't just losing Quinn either. The Cowboys defense got pummeled by the Packer with Quinn.

The one thing I think is that every year no one knows what any team will look like when the season starts. Like the Cowboys in 2024, teams will suffer injuries and have to play backups. That changes everything. If Washington loses Daniels to injury, does anyone think they won't lose some games as a result? Also, some players who had career years in 2024 will not be able to repeat those years in 2025. Will Saquon Barkley rush for 2000 yards again? No player in NFL history has rushed for 2000 yards twice, let alone in consecutive years.

One thing we can be certain of is not everything we expect will come to fruition.

I don't see the Cowboys going anywhere in 2025. Inferior QB'ing and RB by committee is a huge anchor to this team.

Why are you talking about Saquon? Does deriding him make the Cowboys committee of RBs better? No! Saquon is better than all of them.

Played fantasy a couple of times years ago.

I had an extremely difficult time having to root for players on our rivals, or playing against Cowboys players.

Yep. I don’t measure things by championships. They are difficult. SF is a great example. Their title drought is a year longer than ours, but they’ve had much more postseason success since, and had teams that had a real shot come playoff time, they just didnt get it done. Big difference, and I would complain much less if our recent history resembled theirs.

The only team Dallas had that was primed for a real run was 2007, and that roster was largely built by Parcells.

People can talk 2016 and the 12 win teams under Mike all they like, but every Jerry-built roster has included gaping holes that end up exploited by the better teams when it matters most.

I think Saquon has everything to do with the Cowboys. They are the Cowboys chief competition for the division title. If he fails to live up to 2024 it could mean the Eagles will not be as strong in 2025 as they were last season. That would give NFC East foes a chance to overtake them.

Nothing else matters. This is exactly what I was hoping for when I signed up for this as a kid.

Did I like “those Super Bowls?” The answer is getting real close to “no” if this was the eventual cost.

Jerry Jones is on record with his self-qualifier of, paraphrasing, "I am the best person to be general manager." Whether he believes his own words or is completely lying to the public and himself is totally irrelevant.

His actions reflect his self-contradiction for who is best qualified for a job he hired them to do. Jones hired head coaches he thought (or promoted as) the best people to oversee his football team. Let's remove his former Arkansas Razorback buddies, Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer--along with Bill Parcells--from the review:

• Chan Gailey? Fired.
• Dave Campo? Fired.
• Wade Phillips? Fired.
• Jason Garrett? Did not renew his contract.
• Mike McCarthy? Did not renew his contract.

Five for five. None of them netted him Super Bowls or even Super Bowl appearances. They were let go.

His GM, who hired them and has netted the exact same results? He is the best person for the job.

Narcissism. It compels an individual not to use the same try-and-fail strategy used on head coaches. Instead, it justifies the same individual to simply fail year after year.

Something you said in a different post made a lot of sense. They pay players based on their assets. It's not always team friendly.

30 years is not a drought it is eternal dysfunction.

C'mon! Even if the Cowboys sweep the Eagles, they are going to lose a dozen other games. You and I massively disagree on who the Cowboys are currently.
