Not sure how we keep that many players on the roster now though....DL and WR are now over and DB may be too. This is my frustration sometimes with our late picks. We take guys we can't find room for then have to try to hide them on the PS and hope no one steals them. They sometimes end up a wasted pick

Practice squad.....

The Dallas Cowboys used their last pick in the 2017 NFL draft on another defensive tackle. This time it was Jordan Carrell out of Colorado. The Cowboys certainly decided this was going to be a defensive draft, and they made that happen. Carrell becomes the second late-round defensive tackle for the Cowboys along with Joey Ivie.

NFL DraftScout:

2016 ALL-PAC-12 CONFERENCE HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): DL, Jordan Carrell, Sr.,...Honorable Mention All-Pac-12: Played a big role in helping CU's defense lead the conference by allowing just 323.8 yards per game, a mark that ranked No. 13 in the country … his 625 snaps played on defense were the most of any Buffalo defensive lineman, and his 46 tackles tied for the most by a CU defensive lineman … he had 5½ sacks on the season, ranking second on the team and in a tie for ninth in the Pac-12 … was also credited with 12 quarterback pressures on the season and four third-down stops

Doesn't seem to be much out there, in terms of film, on him. Can't comment much, but our staff most likely had more access to his tape than any of us.

Just gotta see what he does in camp.

I'm guessing he caught the eye of our scouts while they were watching Chidobe's film. I wish him luck!

pretty sure not all picks make the team anyway, so take who you want to get a better look at and get the look.

why people fret over 7th round picks will forever befuddle me.

They are late round picks.....90 percent chance none of these guys will make the team.

2016 draft:

1. Elliott
2. Smith
3. Collins
4. Prescott
6. Brown
6. Frazier
6. Jackson [now with the Browns]
7. Gathers

1 guy, Jackson, is no longer with the team. He is now a RB for the Cleveland Browns. So he's still in the NFL.

2015 draft:

1. Jones
2. Gregory
3. Green
5. Russell [currently playing for Tampa Bay]
7. Nzeocha
7. Gibson [currently on the Texans roster]
7. Swaim

Everybody from our 2015 draft is currently on an NFL roster.

2014 draft:

Now here's a draft where all the late guys didn't make the squad:

1. Martin
2. DLaw
4. Hitchens
5. Street [currently with the Colts
7. Ben Gardner [out of the NFL]
7. Will Smith [out of the NFL]
7. Ahmad Dixon [out of the NFL]
7. Ken Bishop [out of the NFL]
7. Terrance Mitchell [playing for the Chiefs]

Devin Street hung around on the Dallas squad for 2 seasons before being released. He was picked up by the Colts.
Of the remaining guys, only Terrance Mitchell is still in the NFL and - surprise! - he actually started 2 games for the Chiefs last season.

I think the advent of Stephen Jones has been felt the most in the last 3 drafts, including this 2017 one. The last draft where I think Jerry still had the most control was 2014, where we essentially wasted all of our late picks.

I don't think you can automatically count guys taken in rounds 5-7 as being just camp bodies headed for a training camp cut any more.

It's competition; if a rookie pushes someone off the roster, great. If a vet steps up his game in competition and the rookie doesn't make it, that's fine too. I won't be surprised if White, Brown, and both DT's get cut, but you never know how they'll perform, what injuries will occur, or if guys like Thornton and Crawford underperform.

You don't draft 9 players and expect them to all make your 13-3 team.

Not from last years play he isn't. I say Brown over him.
Scandrick was clearly hurt last year. And even then......I haven't seen enough of Brown to say he's the best at anything. I'm going based on Scandrick's track record. Brown doesn't have one. I like what we have in Brown. I feel more comfortable with Brown being our #2 and Scandrick being our #1.

No I don't think you just assume guys taken in the 5-7 rounds are camp bodies but I also don't think you should assume they are automatic contributors or good enough to hold a roster spot. History says that is not the case. And when I say late round I don't mean 5th rounders. I'm referring to the 6th and 7th rounders. Some can find spots as special teamers. Some just end up out of the league. It happens.

90% chance no matter what position
More UDFA in the NFL make it that 7th rnd picks

I don't know if that's fact but I can name more UDFA that have had great careers in this league then I can 7th rounders. I Think a big reason for that is in the 7th round people are taking projects. Which all these guys are for the most part but a lot of guys don't get drafted that either A)came from small schools or B) had bad measurable. But those same players are usually better prospects then those guys picked in the 7th round its just scouts don't believe they have the ceiling as those taken int he 7th.
