I like his quickness but he is another that needs to get into the weight room and train. For his lowcut frame his bubble is not impressive. I don't like leanness in the legs of my DT.

Of those 3, only Ratliff was drafted in the 7th.

I'm aware...point was grabbing guys that were productive but fell through the cracks. We seem to have better luck with UDFAs

Most teams have one 7th round pick and 20 UDFAs. They numbers say that more UDFAs should make it than 7th round picks.

Are there any contractual reasons that going UDFA is better than using a late pick on someone you want in the sense of being able to retain their rights, practice squad, and whatnot?

You don't have to outbid teams in signing UDFAs, that is the main benefit to drafting them in the 7th. This is especially important since the NFL only allows you so much money to use on UDFAs, so if you give one guy a really big signing bonus to get him to come here over another team, then the less you have available to give everybody else.

So the best strategy would be to draft guys in the 7th that you know you would have the hardest time signing or guys that would command the most signing bonus money as an UDFA.

Well he did more last year than Scandrick. He also produced more than Scandrick's rookie year. So its debatable.

Scandrick was hurt last year. If you want to say he's better because Scandrick has been less reliable due to injuries than fair enough. But let's not pretend like Brown didn't have some solid success last year against number 2s and 3s.

True, double teams and tackles that grab the DL's jersey are hard to deal with, without strong legs.

He should be able to compete with Dick Ash for a roster spot.

No. There are some advantages to the player to be UDFA over 7th round pick. The contract is shorter and they get to pick the team.

For the team, it seems more likely that other teams will claim a 7th round (any round) draft pick if they try to slide them to the practice squad.

Scandrick was hurt last year. But you did say you would take Scandrick's production any year. I just pointed out that Brown was better last year and was in fact our best DB. Thus I said its debatable.

I didn't say to any year I said his last 8 years. My point is I have a bigger sample six to go off of then I do Brown. I like Brown too. I have to see more before I say he's ready to guard #1s.

Unheralded Jordan Carrell caused a bit of a buzz with a fine performance.

The defensive tackle measured 6021 and 293 pounds, timed in the mid-4.8’s in the 40 and touched 31.5 inches in the vertical jump. He completed 23 reps on the bench but had two taken away.

During drills Carrell looked smooth, quick and very fluid. He will be signed after the draft

Potential first-round pick Chidobe Awuzie re-did the vertical jump and touched 39.5 inches, a five-inch improvement from his combine mark. Awuzie had one-on-one meetings with defensive back coaches from the Cincinnati Bengals, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Lions.
