I don't know if that's fact but I can name more UDFA that have had great careers in this league then I can 7th rounders. I Think a big reason for that is in the 7th round people are taking projects. Which all these guys are for the most part but a lot of guys don't get drafted that either A)came from small schools or B) had bad measurable. But those same players are usually better prospects then those guys picked in the 7th round its just scouts don't believe they have the ceiling as those taken int he 7th.
Yep
There are many more UDFA than 7th rounders but no team expects a 7th rnd or UDFA to be a ready to play guy. More about what you can mold them into

Yep. I wonder what they expected Miles, Romo, etc. to be? Like did they think they could be decent backups in this league or did they think the bar was Pro Bowlers?

More like there is a whole bigger pool of udfa's than there is of 7th round picks.

I think they liked their potential, especially romo
But I doubt anyone expected what they got out of romo. Miles had his stretch as a good receiver but he had good size and speed
The 7th to me is where you take potential and pray they can live up to it

Surprising pick and really limited highlights for a player on a pretty good team. At that stage, you are just drafting a guy who has a couple traits you like and then see if he can make up for what he is missing. Probably the longest shot of anyone drafted by Dallas.....but I guess he was the last pick as well.

I don't think that's it. There are just as many 1st round picks as there are 7th round picks but that doesn't stop the fact that the majority of first round picks end up being busts.......

7th RND picks and UDFAs have very little difference in ability. But the pools you are taking them out of are very different sizes. There are only 35 7th rounders today and hundreds of UDFAs.

Teammate of our 2nd-round pick, Chidobe Awuzie. Not a whole lot on him tbh. Another big body for camp though.

Height: 6'3

Weight: 295 lbs.

40 Time: 4.90 sec.

I love to watching Marinelli coach DLInemen on those drills that he is running. Marinelli will tell them it's complete crap the first several times and he'll point out multiple things that are wrong. Then later, he'll tell them (some of them) that it's great, but it looks exactly the same to me.

Because I expect to find a miles Austin, jay Ratliff, or Romo in there....call me spoiled

When Ratliff was drafted, ppl said the exact same thing as these two DL. Camp body. no upside. Blah blah bla.

But they failed to see the high effort player from a big school that played against quality competition.

When Austin was kept as the 6th wr, ppl lamented wasting the roster spot on a nobody who showed nothing in camp.

Romo was a nobody buried in the depth chart behind the likes of Quincy Carter and Drew Henson and Vinny Testes and all of them.

Point being, none of those guys were shining examples until they made it. No one--and I mean no one--was singing their praises until they proved themselves

Most teams have one 7th round pick and 20 UDFAs. They numbers say that more UDFAs should make it than 7th round picks.
