I think we should stop giving up on everything because it doesn't instantly work.

One huge reason this team is stuck in neutral is because it never has enough time to build on what it sets out to do.

My question is will our defense even work in todays NFL?

We know it won't work in College football defending the spread. So far in the NFL? Terrible.

Pull the plag on this old washed up coach now and try to save the season.the Ravens fired Cameron in the middle of the season last year and went on to win it all. not saying the cowboys will do it, but it's worth a try.this defense is a disgrace folks. and hiring this old man that defense could not even stop a college offense, was yet another in a long line of mistakes by fool Jerry.Denver did not put 1 time in this game.the the Oakland shut down the same Phillip Rivers that look like Joe Montana against Kiffin's defense. he needs to be fired now but he won't be. because ego Jerry will never admit he made a grave mistake. who is with me on this? sean Lee said it best when he said after the game that this defense is terrible. and he started by pointing at himself. and i respect him for that. 3 400 yard passers in 4 games.81 points give up in the last 2 games. that's a disgrace and a joke.

Cam Cameron was the Ravens OC from 2008 through the first part of the 2012 season. That's 4+ years by my math.

Kiffin's been here for 5 games.

It's been working, for the most part, in Chicago for the past 6-7 years. Of course they had a HoF MLB in Urlacher and possibly the best 4-3 OLB over the past decade in Briggs to pull it off.

Frankly, both of those guys are fairly unique talents.

Lee and Carter are elite again the run, however, so far they aren't getting it done in terms of the pass coverage required in the Kiffin 4-3 zone.

They absolutely should do that. How on earth did we not stop Manning?

The Cowboy brass wanted to switch to a 4-3.

Seemed like they just picked it out of a hat. Darts at a dart board maybe? I still have no idea why they chose the 4-3, and not just the 4-3, but the Tampa Two 4-3. It is very clear that we do not have the personnel for it. I am not sure the Bucs in their prime would be effective at slowing todays passing game. It was the worst possible defense to pick. It makes no sense at all.

Now that we have moved to the 4-3, the same problems are creeping up from the last time we ran a 4-3. We cannot cover TE's in the seams or RB's in the flats. Reminds me of the dark Campo years.

It is not Kiffin, just like last year it was not Ryan, nor Wade before. The Cowboys have a bunch of over rated talent on defense. They have some above average players, but no difference makers. D Ware is the most over rated player they have. He is on the tail end of his career and has been handled in back to back weeks by back up offensive tackles. Without any difference makers or stars on defense, they will continue to struggle.

Can you say knee-jerk reaction? Yeah, that D-Ware is a cancer and an all around loafer. How he ever got so many freaking sacks is truly astounding. Him and Monte can help each other pack. Never mind we have two third stringers playing alongside him and Hatch. This defense is just snake bit by injuries. Last season it was the LBers, this season it's the DLine.

Damg.I feel like such a defender of the obvious today.

Kiffin's D has been devastated by injuries. It's not an excuse, just a fact. And when you are playing people off the street and off the couch, days like this will happen. If there is blame to be assigned, blame jerra for lavashing millions on Spent and the Rat and depending on them to play.

The obvious is sometimes the most overlooked thing when emotions get in the way.

Which injury are you and CowboyGil blaming the loss on? Just curious.

Injuries had little effect on that game. Peyton gets the ball out quickly and negates good pass rushes. Was our entire LB core and secondary injured? A healthy DWare and Spencer could have helped a little against the run, but unless they could play safety I am not sure it would have mattered.

Hard to say. Maybe once the biggest culprits of its failure so far get the hang of things (the linebackers) it may improve. But we really won't know what it looks like until we have a solid defensive line in place, which likely wouldn't be until next year.

Knee jerk reaction? Ware is not performing, even when singled up against back up O lineman. Maybe his body has failed him and he does not have the strength anymore, cant say. He has to win some battles though, he is not doubled every time. He is supposed to be a superstar, one of the best in the business. Right now he is only a averge player and image of his former self.

I was thinking the same thing. The Raiders handle Oakland like they were nothing.

The Raiders dominating the Chargers is why I love the NFL so.... there is a huge amount of unpredictability in the NFL game and the "on-an-given-day" mantra is constantly proving itself on a weekly basis.

I have no idea how the Chargers club that looked all world against Dallas looked they didn't even belong in the same ballpark as the Raiders. That's the beauty of the NFL!

Seems to work pretty good for the Bears. They are still running a version of the cover 2. The real question is, does it matter what the scheme is with this personnel.

I just don't get how it could be ther personnel though.

Is Nick Hayden and Morris Claiborne really bringing everyone else down this badly?

Personally, and I could be wrong here because I'm certainly not an even a high school football coach let alone an NFL level coach, but one of our issues is that I don't think our main two corner (Carr and Claiborne) are good Zone corners. Personally I feel like they're much better press man coverage guys and this zone coverage isn't working as well for them.

Now obviously that's not the only reason the defense isn't playing well. Lee and Carter haven't been nearly as good in coverage as I'd thought they'd be and I don't know if that's something from the scheme or what, and our defensive line simply isn't good enough. We don't get enough pressure and that's just the way it is.

Now I realise the team went into this season expecting to have Spencer, Ratliff, and Crawford out there in this rotation as well and most likely if they'd had them this D-line would be playing a lot better. But right now it's just not doing enough. Ware, Hatcher, and Selvie simply aren't gettning enough done and we don't have enough depth behind them to help out enough either.

So there is all across the board reasons why this teams defense is absolutely horrible, IMO.

Can we give him some players in the line and let him have something to work with first?
