He played with a hand or wrist injury during those fumbling times, IIRC. Well, at least I know it was injured for the Philly game on Christmas.

He was an undrafted rookie. You'd fumble too if you were just given the lead returner duties for the Cowboys after 32 teams passed you over seven times.

He'll be fine. Watch him in the preseason this year. He's going to blow the pants off Urban.

You've obviously never seen my spin move in traffic....

When you have State Title Bling, you have to show your fans..

I have that same problem.. Just not as many blue stones...

Urban hasn't even played a PRESEASON game yet.

Sure he has. He's played in regular season games too.

Urban has looked pretty good but so has Rabb at WR. Whether Urban could win punt return job must be proved in these next preseason games but it certainly could give him a step up. He sounds like another Hurd in the sense that both put in additional time working/studying how to do their jobs better, etc. Am surprised Urban didn't attempt resign with Seattle once he fully recovered from his foot injury but can understand he'd rather play closer to home. OTOH, if he plays well, we might get a call from Seattle asking about him if they indeed liked his play 2 years ago.

Battle isn't a FB and looking good but doubt he can make this team cause Thompson is also having a very good TC and has also (supposedly) shown the multiple cutting moves we've all hoped to see from him proving (hopefully) that he's no longer just a speedy but straight ahead RB. Agains we'll see in preseason games what he can do.

Frankly, I'd hold off on any trade talk until we've seen what any of these guys can do. Just remember that the Cowboys like Austin because of his speed & size & potential; they really see him as having starter potential. I think the whole thing comes down to what happens to Stenback & how soon he's healthy enough to get on the practice field. We'll get keep 6 WRs with him, or put him on PUP, but can still keep 6 WRs if Raab or Urban look very good in upcoming games.

Because now I see Hoyte being pushed by Battle for the backup FB spot.
I know Battle is not considered as a FB but is Hoyte that valuable as a blocking FB to knock off a promising young rb like Battle?

Battle is not a FB.........he will most likely make the PS. Hoyte is the clear cut FB at this point.

Regarding Urban............the difference between Urban and Austin is not that much. Same size and speed, and Urban probably has better handsand experience. The difference will be special teams. If Urban shows he can be a punt returner, he may surprise and make the team. He is already practicing as the gunner on punts.

Austin returned one KO for a TD last year, but other than that was pretty much a straight line runner, just like TT. There really is not difference in the two. Special teams verstility will decide who makes it and who doesn't.

Battle is a FB and has been producing on the field both running the ball and blocking according to recent reports.

I think we must realize that every year there is a potential talent on every NFL roster that doesn't make the final 53. With this year's Cowboys, there is a ton of talent and there may be cuts on players that are capable of playing in the NFL, not just potential.

A couple of years ago, you may remember a player Tom Crowder, who mainly played special teams and even had a punt block in the Arizona preseason game. I don't even know if he made the roster that year, but I haven't heard of him since then. I think of Jerheme Urban as a similar player who may wow some in the preseason and be a hard worker, but just not cut it as a talent in the NFL. I'll take Austin.

At the TC I have been to these past two weeks, Battle has been a HB. He may be doing a good job at picking up the blitz, but he has been a HB at camp. The FB's in camp have been Hoyte, Polite and Anderson. Hoyte has been running first team all camp, with Polite running second and Hands of Stone Anderson third.

2. Jerheme Urban has a solid preseason as a WR and as a punt returner. Having Urban as the primary punt returner and then possibly having Newman return some if we need to obtain field position or get points quickly in a particular game.

Sorry--but I just don't buy it......Urban is much to slow.....good hands yes but no speed.

Has Miles Austin really shown enough as a WR so far? I really like the kid as a player and I think he has great potential. However, I would definitely prefer having an experienced WR that can make plays as a WR and a punt returner like Urban rather than just a kick returner (who we already have in Thompson) that probably won't contribute much as a WR like Austin. What do you guys think?

Why would any team trade a 6th or 7th round pick for Austin?

Battle can line up in both spots and has done so in the past evidently he has also lined up at FB in camp at times.:

The lineman are a mixed bag. Chris Canty provides a push as does Marcus Spears, though he seems to run hot and cold. He is getting into the backfield and blowing things up, but he’s been inconsistent the times I’ve focused on him.

FB Jackie Battle stalemated him when Spears cut inside the line. I shouldn’t be too hard on Spears because Battle had an excellent practice and appears to be making a push for a roster spot. His blocking is getting notice and he ended the practice and Ken Hamlin’s day with a vicious goalline collision. Battle caught a pass at the five, cut away from a linebacker and collided helmet-to-helmet with Hamlin at the one.

I don't know who worte that article, but Battle is RB not a FB. Those blocking reports are probably referring to blitzing or pass protection from the RB position.

I think Austin offers the team more than Thompson does, if anything, perhaps it would be better to see "if" there might be an interest in Thompson and trade him.

I agree 100%. Austin hasn't shown anything different from what Thompson has as far as kickoff return ability. Both have straight line speed with very little elusiveness. Though Austin returned a kickoff for a TD, it was the result of great blocking, not the result of Austin creating on his own. Go back and watch the TD again; it was basically a straight line to the endzone..If Thompson returned the kick instead of Austin, we would have seen the same results. I don't have anything against Austin and I hope he has a successful career, but to say that he is head and shoulders better than the other WR prospects is false in my opinion. With that said, I would still feel better with Austin on the roster than Urban. I think he has maxed out his abilities while Austin still has room for growth.

I haven't heard much about RB Coleman. Has anyone seen him in camp or read any reports on how he is looking?
