I haven't heard much about RB Coleman. Has anyone seen him in camp or read any reports on how he is looking?
Coleman's been rehabbing his ankle along with Stanback.

Does anyone remember when we were fools for turning down a 3rd or 4th round draft pick from the Jets for Tony Romo?

Yeah....me neither.

Yeah....me neither.

I remember being pretty upset when we didn't take the offer of Coakley for a first rounder from (any team in the NFL).

By the way, saying Jehreme Urban has any more potential than Austin as a WR at this point is completely ridiculous, not to mention baseless. Jamaica Rector had an amazing preseason last year. Where did that leave us? Urban hasn't even played a PRESEASON game yet.

Thanks, this was what I was thinking. Thanks for saying it for me.
How many times we hear about the camp standout, that does not end up making the team. At this point I consider Urban as a PS player. Until he shows us something. Austin does have game experience, so that means he is way far ahead of Urban. It will take a lot to take Austin's place.

Battle can line up in both spots and has done so in the past evidently he has also lined up at FB in camp at times.:

The lineman are a mixed bag. Chris Canty provides a push as does Marcus Spears, though he seems to run hot and cold. He is getting into the backfield and blowing things up, but he’s been inconsistent the times I’ve focused on him.

FB Jackie Battle stalemated him when Spears cut inside the line. I shouldn’t be too hard on Spears because Battle had an excellent practice and appears to be making a push for a roster spot. His blocking is getting notice and he ended the practice and Ken Hamlin’s day with a vicious goalline collision. Battle caught a pass at the five, cut away from a linebacker and collided helmet-to-helmet with Hamlin at the one.
This is exactly what I am talking about.
I believe of the fullbacks(Anderson,Polite and Hoyte) that Anderson is the only guy who they are sure they are keeping. Polite and Hoyte are up in the air as far as I am concerned. Anderson is a stud on sp. teams and a good blocker who can catch also. Hoyte is a tough blocker but is one-dimensional as a FB. Polite is not the tough blocker they want. So I see us keeping one true FB with a TE brought in case of injury to Anderson. I would hate to see us cut a player like a Battle because we are overloaded with rb's. I really think he can line up at FB and do well for short stretches at a time.

Battle actually fits the old style FB. People forget Jim Brown was a FB. The position is not just one of blocking but if you can get a guy like Battle who can produce as a runner as well as a blocker from that position he could become a big asset to this team.

I'd rather keep Austin and trade Thompson if I had to. Urban has the build of a "punter" and I'd rather go with "potential" and size with Austin. Plus Battle looks like the kind of guy you keep on the roster for the season and see how he develops which makes Thompson expendable IMO.

Quick question McC, who will you be rooting for when Jimmy & Co. come on down to West Lafayette later this year?

Of Course not!!.. Ill root for the Irish to do well but for the Boilers to get the W. It's my most dreaded Saturday of the year.

I'm against Urban making the team at this point, but its because he's been in the league for five years and is still battling for the bottom of the depth chart. The guy isn't eligible for the practice squad, he has more experience than both Hurd and Austin.

Hoyte was one dimensional last year, but reports have been pretty good on him in camp that he has developed pretty nicely. Most reports are that he's been the top performer out of the FBs. We'll see this preseason I guess.

Yeah, then we can use that 7th rounder on a rookie WR who might have some raw skills but is light years away from starting in the NFL.

Hoyte made the team as a LB not a FB. That's why he seemed one dimensional, but he worked hard on catching the ball and looks much more comfortable at the FB spot. He is our starting FB this year.

6th and 7th round picks are worthless... just like this idea.

I like Urban, but Austin is a better prospect, I believe.

Anyway, these discussions are premature. Several of them will probably be settled by the injury bug biting people before the cutdown day.

;)

Where exactly are you drawing these conclusions of Anderson from, considering he hasn't even played in his first preseason game yet?

Let's be honest - once you heard the crazy chicken story, did you really need any other sort of evaluation?

How do you know Anderson is a stud on specail teams ........ seems that we haven't seen him play so far.

Besides, from what I've read Hoyte is getting most of the reps at FB, and unlike Anderson we already know he is solid on special teams.
