Well, I see that three didn't bother reading the article and just jumped to conclusions. Make that four on a recount.

Um, did that say a DE with a 5.2 40 yard dash?

I mean, great story and all, and I tend to root for the guy, but what is that 40 time? Does he have a great 10 yard burst at least?

3-4 ends are more like DTs, a 40 time isn't really that helpful for linemen anyway.

Marcus Dixon (DE)
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 284
College: Hampton
Conference: MEAC
Hometown: Rome, GA
High School: Pepperell

Overview
Despite earning all-conference honors after each of past two seasons, Dixon is more known for his off-field issues than on-field production. Originally signing with Vanderbilt out of high school, Dixon was arrested and jailed for statutory rape. The Georgia Supreme Court later ruled the sex was consensual, overturning the case and releasing Dixon from prison after he served 15 months. While quite raw, Dixon is a versatile player with the size and strength to project either at defensive end or tackle and has the athletic tools worth developing.

High School
Lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track. ... as a sophomore was named a Gridiron Great Rising Star in football and received All-Area honorable mention honors on the basketball court. ... recorded 98 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, three sacks and seven pass breakups as a junior defensive end, earning him First Team All-Area honors. ... was a Second Team All-Area selection and the RomeNews Tribune Tipoff Club Player of the Year in basketball. ... ranked among the top three defense ends in his district by Blue Chip Recruiting. ... placed third in the region in the shot put and the discus. ... recognized by Who's Whom Among American High School Students. ... graduated with a 3.96 GPA. ... member of the National Honor Society.

Analysis
Positives: Naturally large frame with wide shoulders and hips. ... Room for additional growth. ... Flashes good initial quickness off the snap. ... Can gain an advantage off the edge with his quickness and turn the guard when playing inside. ... Good strength at the point of attack. ... High effort player who pursues well. ... Characterized as the hardest working player on the field by coaches. ... Team leader. ... National Honor Society with a 3.96 GPA in high school.

Negatives: Character red-flag requires obvious investigation. ... Bit of a 'tweener between defensive end and tackle. ... Lacks great burst off the edge and close on the ball. ... Struggles with his pad level, limiting his power. ... Very small hands (7 7/8"). ... Raw. ... Marginal football instincts. ... Struggles to locate the ball. ... Good player here based strictly on size and athletic ability as he plays with very little technique. ... Struggles in his hand play and has little variety as a pass rusher. ... Obvious questions about his level of competition.

Growing up, who was your favorite NFL player and why? Reggie White, because of his character on and off the field. In college, what player hit you the hardest? Who was the recipient of your best hit? Dan Parrish, 2006; Chad Simpson, 2007. What TV-show marathon will keep you on the couch all day? Law and Order: CSI. What are the five most-played songs in your iPod? What's the one song you hope nobody ever finds out is in your iPod? Crime Mob- Knock if you buck, Lil Wayne - Dufflebag Boy, Young Joc - Bottle Poppin, Gorilla Zoo - I'm oo hood, DJ Khaled - We takin over. What is one thing your teammates don't know about you? That I watch lifetime. What's your proudest moment in football? Proudest moment off the field? Scoring a touchdown when I lined up at tight end. When you play Madden, what team do you use? Do you put yourself on the team? I play with the Colts, but I really don't play the games. If I create myself, I will put myself at SS. Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and how? My God-parents, Ken and Peri Joneo, because they have been tremendously supportive and loving. http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/marcus-dixon?id=1680

Here's an article posted by someone that claims to be "close to the case". The person is obviously slanted against Marcus. Feel free to spice up the replies if you'd like (or just read on). This is a very intriguing story. Oh... & I don't think for one moment that's actually Marcus dancing in that video since the guy dancing is obvious white or perhaps a very light skinned black guy. Marcus will never pass for "light skinned". Draw your own conclusions...

First he's over-sentenced because he's black (sounds like To Kill a Mockingbird), now he's exonerated because he's black. Both are racist. He made a mistake and should have paid for it--but now its over and he has a chance to work hard and maybe be a good pro.

I dont know what the roster spots will shape out with our Dline but this is someone I feel will come in and give us all that hes got to try and make this team and Im sure thats all the coaching staff is asking for. The odds are against him but I wish him luck.

I brought up this kid's name earlier this year in a thread about small school prospects worth a look.

Small School Mock

I had no idea about any of this. I did not do my homework well enough.

Mistake? If that was a mistake I am sure many of us have made the same one. I snuck in the window of my 15 yr old GF back when I was 17 3/4 and shucking morning papers. 3 to 4 times a week I would toss my papers at 5 am, tap on her window at 6am, tap something else once she snuck to the front door and let me in til 6:30-6:45am, tiptoe back out through the front door, and ride my bike back home to shower and get ready for school. I guess I should also mention her mother was a teacher at the school and I often rode with "them" to school. Yeah. I reveal that story because I know many others have done much worse as teens. I don't consider anything that transpired during that period of time a mistake. It was all a learning experience. When liasons of this type are made at HS people are not thinking about the law.. especially when they're both under 18.

I = black
She = white

Thank goodness I didn't live in Georgia. :)

I'm not usually thinking any UDFA have much of a chance, but something says this kid is going to make it and be pretty special for us.

You misunderstood, I was not fretting about it. Just saying this is the first I'd heard of it. I was 18 at one time and can't imagine this happening to me.

Roger that. I would venture to say it takes major determination to go through that and remain focused on your dream. Between Choice and Dixon we picked up plenty of "heart" this weekend.

Actually a 12 person jury said he was innocent.

I wonder what these posts would look like if he'd signed with Philly.

Actually a 12 person jury said he was innocent.
After deliberating for 20 minutes, the jury of nine whites and three blacks acquitted Dixon of the four counts that alleged he had used force. The jury clearly believed that the sex was consensual, but because Brown was viewed as underage according to state law, jurors found Dixon guilty of statutory rape, a misdemeanor, and aggravated child molestation, a felony.
