You can't dismiss the fact that it was a playoff game. I don't think that's a coincidence. The pressure was too much for him.

I don't know how you trust him in San Francisco. I'd amp up the pressure right now, put him on the practice field, tell him he's got to make 10 straight XPs and 3 FGs between 40-50 yards with everyone watching him and if he misses even one attempt he's being released.
Do it on a grass field. All of his misses the last two weeks have come on grass, and not the kind Randy likes.

Lol Risen, but not at you, just in agreement.
Problem is that happened just last week, in post season play.
Maher gave us absolutely no indication during regular season play that he was mental.
Thats the part that is difficult to address at this point, the timing of his failure.

All kickers are mental, man.. You know that.. It's a given.

We should hire Josh Lambo and just fire Maher.
This is where I continue to struggle with this debate.....Maher couldnt hit XPs on Monday which is an issue and we fear he may have lost "it", but the solution is to bring in another kicker who lost "it" two years ago and since 2020 hasnt been able to keep a job and missed 5 of 21 XPs since 2020?

i heard today on the fan that part of the issue was the disruption of the routine bc the officials made anger remove the white painted grass he had put down as the marker for the hold....these guys are creatures of habit and routine, and having that change must have also contributed.

Now - the fact that they didn't read the memo (as everyone of us on here did) that the officials were going to be looking for that and not letting it happen, so they could prepare for the change ahead of time is a whole different matter...I would trust him in SF as long as he goes through his preps all week and looks like himself.
If the NFL upped their scrutiny of markers because our punter was putting down a blade of grass, that's pretty petty.

Yeah I thought the issue with the markers had more to do with a foreign object being under the ball giving it extra height?

My guess is they have no intentions of actually activating this guy. Its clearly meant as a message to BM to get his act together.
Bad nerves is bad nerves. That ain't solved by bringing in competition. He needs to work through it and that MIGHT take more time than the Cowboys have in the playoffs. Decent move considering what's out there at this point in the season.

But he might still fail in the game. Pressure from guys and coaches he is around every day is not even close to the pressure he will be under with possibly the game on the line. Moreover, at this point who do you bring in that hasn't also had issues? You can't brute force this. Cut all you want but Dallas doesn't really have great options on a short turnaround this late in the season. It is what it is now...for better or worse. The offense should be prepared to compensate.

I agree... They will be able to see during the week if he gets his mojo back or not. If he doesn't they have to try the other guy. You can't fail at your job 80% of the time when it matters most and keep it. It don't work that way.

That was my understanding. Don't think a blade of grass does that. Just makes me wonder if this was what it was really all about. This is the first I've read of any kicker using a marker since the NFL came out with its statement.

Don't think the league's emphasis would have looked so good if it had said it was doing it to keep holders from marking their sightline with a blade of grass.
