Should help spread out our offense some more, but doesn't really help the defense too much.

Good God is our LB group awful.

I don't agree with that at all. Lee and Hitchens aren't awful. Wilson isn't awful and will play this year IMO. The rest is up in the air although I'd say Durant is solid not awful. I see him as a progress stopper potentially but he can play the SAM well enough. Wilbur is just a two down back and can't cover well enough for me. If you want to argue he's awful ok but that ignores his two down ability and ability to pass rush from the SAM. Jaylon should be good plus but we'll see.

It could be better and Damien didn't do us any favors.

Hitchens isn't awful, Doc, he's a great backup and spot starter, but not a true starter. Wilson, we don't know yet -- tho, there is a lot of promise there -- but he's facing legit charges. Wilbur and Durant you nailed (I don't mind the Durant signing, and it sounds like you don't either), but neither are world-beaters. Nacho is always hurt. He flashed, but he's always hurt.

The wildcard is Jaylon. If he's a stud, like a lot of us feel he'll be, our LB core instantly goes from below-average/barely average to above average or more.

Lee is a bonafide baller, but he shouldn't be asked to do it all alone. You've said yourself our defense is lacking, and that has to include LB at this point.

With all due respect to your post, Doc.

I agree. But with Hitchens, Lee and Durant on the field we are ok at the least. And we are in SPs over half the time with 2 LBers on the field the majority of the time.

And this season it should be Lee and Smith in the two LB formations, to be fair to this thread. The 2 LBers on the field is duly noted, Jobber :)

I'll concede ok, but I want above-avg, doggonit! :)
