Signed by Cowboys Cowboys sign OL Saahdiq Charles

This is a good pick for the Jones land of misfit players. He’s not sure if he wants to play football, injured a lot Wonder if he has a cannabis problem.

My recollection of Charles is he was really awful before he retired. My assumption is he will be the swing tackle in the event Steele or Guyton gets hurt. But I think by the time the season rolls around Asim Richards will be the better player at either tackle position.

Jerry's hoping to change the culture of the Cowboys team by signing quitters? Hiring losers to win doesn't appear a likely way to cultivate success. I have to wonder what the hell he's thinking!
He is not thinking, that is the issue.

I think it is just another player signed to take a chance on. They need to fill roster spots. They can churn later if needed.
Better than some late round draft pick or an UDFA for now.

Why is he a loser? Maybe he had some issues that he needed to contend with at the time.
Cole Beasley up and quit in the middle of TC. Returned, became a fan favorite. Was he a loser?

I love how everyone is so pumped about a college OL coach from Kansas State. Are we that pathetic at this point?
I think some fans are just happy for a change, a complete change of the coaching staff. Makes it a little more exciting to see how things unfold. I am not expecting miracles. But better than last year at this time.
I don't know much about this guy, so can't say.

He offers additional competition which is always a good thing.

Even players that don't make the cut can end up making some type of contribution by raising the quality of competition so everybody works harder.

Then again, you never know.

Nate Newton went undrafted and joined Washington as a free agent. He was cut and on the same day he got in a serious car accident.

Nate played a few years in the USFL before joining the Cowboys and was almost cut several times due to his weight.

Mark Tuinei was a reserve DT before transitioning to offense. In his first six seasons he started a total of 23 games. He was constantly on the bubble.

These two guys combined for 8 Pro Bowls, each started on three SB championship teams and was the left side of "The Great Wall" for five seasons.

So, you never really know.
Great post.
I think Randy White, Landry initially tried him at LB. As he ended up at DT.
I guess he turned out ok. :muttley:

I looked it up to be sure.... did not realize he spent 2 years at LB.

"Although selected second overall in the 1975 NFL Draft, the headliner in the famed Dirty Dozen class, White spent his first two seasons being mostly confused and confined as a middle linebacker."

Why the hate on Hoffman?

The OL improved when he became the starter and the run game improved. He’s been around the league long enough to know what it takes.

Yeah, he’s not prime Martin. But you cannot have high paid players at all 5 OL spots or 5 first rounders.

He’s graded out nearly the same as Will Hernandez who half the board has been asking for.
Not hate, it's observation. Hoffman not strong enough 1v1 with the NFCE DTs and it's on tape. Shotty says power run game, well go get a powerful RG to make that happen. Hoffman at Center is fine, but not at OG imo. Maybe he proves me wrong, but again it would be malpractice to pencil in Brock and gift him the spot by not addressing it adequately.

You can't tell some of the parrots around here things like this. Substance is more difficult to mimick. Takes thinking and being informed.

I do worry/wonder exactly what it was that inspired him to retire after winning a starting role. But he obviously has enough talent to be worth a look.

Exactly.

Dont watch much Kansas State personally but when talking about replacing the incompetent dinosaur Solari, I welcome any kind of change, lol.
True. I agree but I sure wish we would all adopt a wait and see rather than putting guys on pedestals.

That is why Randy White wore #54 when jersey numbers were assigned based on position. Only LB's and O-linemen wore jersey numbers in their 50's.

They thought Randy White was too small to play DT but this guy was a scrapper. Once they put him at his natural position then Doomsday II took off.

He had double digit sacks as a DT in his 3rd and 4th seasons, both SB years for the Cowboys.

In reality, I don’t think they draft any OL.

OT - Guyton, Steele. Richard’s, Waletzko

OG - Smith, Hoffman. Bass, Thomas, Jones, Charles

OC - Beebe.

Then you have a few guys who have stuck around of they seem to like Shepley, Jack Anderson, Bostick Jr.

I’m still amazed they signed Charles AND Jones and didn’t just opt for Will Hernandez.
Waletzko has to go.

Was he a loser? No but chances are Charles will be

Your assumption would be wrong. He isn't a T, he is a G. That is all he has played in the NFL. He was a T in college but made the move inside.

Let's see how good he is. Have him jump off the high diving board in the 30 feet deep pool in "Cannon Ball!!!!" mode. We shall then measure his splash radius. If it meets with scientfiic approval, i.e. the spectators get splashed, then proceed. May be unrealistic at the moment but what if every lineman did it and you had the data on size/splash radius? Wouldn't you want the splashiest guy? Whatevs! ;)
