I'm not going to be a Homer and say negative things about signing Eagen just because I love what Beasley brings however, our Wide Reciever play was very poor last year. No one stepped up in any of their roles. That goes from playing outside/slot/and ST. Yes yes the QB but the the difference in talent that drops from Dez to our other WR core is tremendous. What adding Eagen or any player for that matter is push these guys to be better rather than stay complacent. Eagen brings in another person who can play the slot and also either start or backup the KO and PR. I love that competition.

I hear what you're saying, but I still say you can't take much of anything from last year. With Dez out, it means everyone has to step up a spot. Tough enough with a QB like Romo, but then you take him out, and now you have guys all trying to bump up a level, and at the same time they have backups (and not very good ones) throwing to them. The only one I have no faith in right now is Street.

Why have a Cole Beasley imitation when we already have the real thing? He adds nothing to the team that we don't already have. I wish him well and hope he has a great training camp but I don't seeing him staying here.

He is a much more polished kick/punt returner than Beasley. Not saying he will stick, but if he does, it will likely be in the capacity.

This guy will be cut and end up in New England in 2-3 years being called the next Wes Welker/Danny Amendola/Julian Edelman

Except he's nothing like those guys as players. Based on the description above, Eagan is more of a straight-line speed WR, lacking quickness and loose hips to accelerate out of breaks.

Looks like Eagan is quicker than Beasley.

You never know. If they think the guy has some talent, it can't hurt to bring him in and see what he can do. Who knows, maybe he has a knack for punt returns and he ends up very good on special teams. Maybe he's better than Street and is worth keeping around a little bit.

Probably not but you can't tell if you don't give him a shot.

He has no chance.

Beasley is a road block.

He is a made man.

Wouldn't this thought process eliminate nobody from getting a look?

It's called an evaluation based on film study. All teams do it. Many, many players get eliminated from consideration because of it.

Yeah you're right. They should bring in every player that was draft eligible.

You really think Brady has that many years left in him, once Brady is gone those miniature receivers in NE aren't going to be very effective

Eagan spells the death of Lucky Whitehead. Eagan is the real deal as a WR, KR and PR.

I don't know, remember Garrett personally talked Eagan out of signing with Buffalo, to instead sign with Dallas.

So he conned him. I just have a hard time seeing two similar WRs in our scheme and how we do things.

He will have to earn the return jobs, so maybe he takes the Lucky Whitehead slot.

Then the question becomes can he do the fake Dwayne Harris blocking role thing that Whitehead tried his best to do last year?

Probably won't happen, but he does have that flexibility Garrett likes.

I'm thinking Lucky is the more vulnerable one if Eagan excels.
