nonsenseSo the Eagles have Carter at DT for pennies on the dollar...and we are going to sign a 2 down specialist DT at top dollar...and then build around that with draft picks and free agent castaways?
This is an how you run an ego-invested organization.
I think that’s the main problem here though. He was available for extension last offseason. Why do you wait so much?h
hey at least we signed him early and saved a few bucks
We wouldn't expect you to claim anything else. What is wrong with you people? This is a good signing. He is one of the top free agents.
Where they getting the cash?wow, surprised they are paying up
Cause we are cap broke.I think that’s the main problem here though. He was available for extension last offseason. Why do you wait so much?
What do you think you could have gotten him for last offseason? 15m$ per year? 13m$ per year? Less?
YupCommanders by all reports wanted him bad. They are losing Payne and know it. DQ wanted him, loves him. Frankly he is the second best proven D lineman we have.
I hope you are correct.Does not
If you extend him, the new money doesn’t hit the cap until after the old deal is over. So it would have started next year just like the deal he just agreed to. What you had last season isn’t impacted by it, aside from a pittance of the signing bonusCause we are cap broke.
Jalen Carter demands double and triple teams on just about every play. He makes everyone else around him better. Milton Williams and Josh Sweat should send him a percentage of their new paychecks, since they benefited from this.He gave you .5 less sacks than what Jalen Carter had this year. Carter also had about 200 more snaps and is viewed as a top DT in the league and by some given the generational talent label. Very few of these interior players are racking up crazy sack numbers around the league right now. These guys are getting paid based on the analytics and pressure rates. Sacks are starting to become less and less of a factor.
I don't see Williams getting $13 million APY if Osa gets $21 million. If he does, then the Eagles are geniuses.I've gone back and forth on Osa as to whether we should pay up big to keep him.
Overall I really like him. He's the best DT we have and a very solid NFL player. He's also young and durable, which is important.
When I saw the 20+ number floated, my feeling was almost just let him go, and use that money on multiple players. I had seen Milton Williams projection at 13 while Osa was 21. I think I'd rather sign Williams then add a vet like Jarran Reed/Shelden Rankins (maybe even Jonathan Allen). I'd rather have the top end depth at the position and I don't feel Osa is worth more that much more than Williams.
On the other hand, I doubt Williams goes that low and the cap is exploding, so we need to understand that 21 APY for 4 years today is like a 12APY just a few years ago.
We need a "real" IDL rotation, I hope we finally understand that. My fear is they spend on Osa, then feel they have done enough, with Mazi and players like Linval Joseph filling in the gaps. That won't cut it. We need a real, NFL quality DL rotation. IMO we need at least one more FA, even if we do pay up for Osa. A Rankins/Reader/Reed type, then Mazi and another early pick. We've had a JV IDL rotation for years, time to fix that.
So I'm OK with paying Osa, just hope we realize it's not enough for the position. We need more.
Right. Just like Osa's success has a lot to do with the attention that Parsons draws.Jalen Carter demands double and triple teams on just about every play. He makes everyone else around him better. Milton Williams and Josh Sweat should send him a percentage of their new paychecks, since they benefited from this.
It isn't. They have had his market value out for weeks.Whatever you say Stephen.
They didn't overpay.Cowboys are always good overpaying their guys.
Don’t go bringing Howie logic in here man. This is a Cowboys forum where we wait and always over pay…….If you extend him, the new money doesn’t hit the cap until after the old deal is over. So it would have started next year just like the deal he just agreed to. What you had last season isn’t impacted by it, aside from a pittance of the signing bonus
