The hallowed Dak to Gallup connection. One of the most feared and productive in football. Run it back Jerry. Cowboys fans want MOAR.
They actually had a pretty decent connection until Gallup's injury. It was not as good last season as we all know.
I expect it to be better as he will be 100% recovered this season. If he is not traded or released. Which is most likely if a contract reduction is not met.

It would be silly to release Gallup this year. The difference between cap hit and dead cap is under a million. Whatever you think of him, it's better to have him for 13M than to not have him for 13M. Even if you spread it out over 2 years, it's still 13 million.
It's about cap space, though, and cost vs. production. Releasing him opens up more than $6 million this year, which could cover the first year of a salary for a better player. Of course, they could just choose to restructure him for now to bring his hit down this year and push off cutting him.

Ahhh, Gallup.

The guy we kept instead of Cooper.
It's amazing that people who follow a football team in March can actually think this. Cooper was gone the day he signed his contract with that out clause.
It's also funny how people pretend he is so good. The #2 WR on Cle is Elijah Moore and the #3 had 224 yards receiving and Cooper still only caught 70 something balls. Imagine someone wanting to pay $20M per year for that? One of the smartest things we did was getting rid of Cooper and telegraphing it and getting little for him in return doesn't change the fact that no team wanted to give up more than a 5th rounder for him. I'd love to have Cooper at $10Mish per year. At $20M???

Since cooper was cut and Gallup extended.

Cooper: 150 catches, 2410 yards. 14 touchdowns.

Cooper has been paid average of 20 mil per season.

Gallup: 73 catches, 842 yards (lol), 6 touchdowns.

Gallup has been paid average of 12 mil per season.

The cowboys are paying more than half the price for less than half of the production.

So again, you can argue cooper was overpaid. But what did the cowboys, turn around and overpaid a different player at the position who isn’t half as productive.

Ultra FAIL by the cowboys FO.

Yeah I guess. They'll save 6 mil this year, and around 2 mil next year. That just seems like an act of desperation. Like looking for a dime in a pile of pennies when you had a wad of bills in your hands. Once they extend a certain player, they'll have plenty of cap space.

Why are people comparing Gallup to Cooper? Gallup was always supposed to be the #2 WR, it was Lamb that was supposed to replace Cooper. They didn't foresee Gallup dropping off the map.

Hope so.

Peak Gallup was when Dak broke his ankle. Shoulda sold then.

Gallup has been mediocre to worse the last 3 years. Let some other team pay him 7 figures for his 25ypg production last year, take the comp pick, and giggle at our good fortune that there are still suckers for Gallup out there in the league.

Cooks is our 2, and per target, Tolbert was about the same as Gallup.

For a downroster guy, Jalen Brooks passed the eyeball test for me whenever he was targeted.

Wave bye to Gallup let the young guys get a chance to develop.

We paid more than 20mil for Gallup and Schultz the year we let Cooper go.
Would have been a much better offense with Cooper, and wouldn't have had any Gallup guaranteed money hanging over our heads for least year either.

Spotrac has Cooper's Market Value at 23.3mil this year.

They compare cooper to Gallup because the cowboys cut cooper for being overpaid the same offseason they resigned Gallup to a decent sized contract. And since then Gallup has stunk.

Gallup is under contract........so we know his agent isn't asking for more money. Probably permission to seek a trade.......

I don't think it's as much desperation as not wanting to pay him what they are paying him. The Joneses have shown that they will pay you top-level money, but if they think the play isn't equal to the pay, they will get rid of you (Cooper, Collins, Elliott) even if the hit for it is pretty hefty, especially if they feel they have someone who deserves your role waiting (Gallup, Steele, Pollard). They may feel that way about Tolbert concerning Gallup, so why not sue the savings, no matter how small, somewhere else?

Gallup HAS BEEN PAID....they owe him nothing....let him walk. Keeping him around does nothing but hurt the team, because he will still see the field WAY too much!!!

You can say cooper is overpaid.

But he is absolutely without a doubt a better player than Michael Gallup and always has been. Even with his “disappearing acts”

Not to mention the fact the cowboys paid him AFTER said ACL tear.
Same with Steele, both mistakes…..maybe they should stop giving contracts to players with fresh season ending injuries?
