The Cowboys have already hosted 4 Wide Receivers that are rated in the top 50 players per CBS:

  • (10) Quinton Johnson - TCU
  • (20) Zay Flowers - Boston College
  • (45) Josh Downs - North Carolina
  • (47) Jalin Hyatt - Tennessee
They've also hosted projected 6th round pick Jonathan Mingo of Ole Miss.

Which possibly makes you think that the FO have ONE of them pretty high on their board and they're trying to smoke and mirror which one.....Bills, Saints and Chiefs, pick just behind us and probably have a much greater NEED of WR. At this this scattergun approach will help disguise the issue and may help with a potential trade down.

Mingo isn't a 6th rounder. He won't go later than 3. I hope its Hyatt they get.

As they should be. They also met with Addison and JSN at the combine. I’d also bet Mingo goes in the top 75 - 6th round ain’t happening.

Jumbo - in my experience CBS boards can be quite a bit off at times. Check out the consensus big boards if you’re interested via a google search. I can link if needed.

Have you thought about 5 WR sets?

IMO, the team is just going to go BPA and is willing to take a wide number of positions, depending on who falls. They are just doing their due diligence to see who is a steal and who isn't.

Possibly, however it may be like the Tyler vrs Cine last year where they took position over board (when presumably the gradings are close). I suppose this is the difference when picking at 26......elite are off the board and there's more of a convergence of talent.

Look at it this way .......it's not a strong WR class, to begin with but if the best 1-2 are drafted before 26, are you willing to draft the 3rd one.....I'm not.

I think it's a need unless you have Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. The WRs of three of the four teams that made it to the conference championship games make ours look putrid.

AJ Brown
Devonta Smith

Jamar Chase
Tyler Boyd
Tee Higgins

Debo Samuel
Brandon Aiyuk
Christian McCaffrey

This is a deeper WR group than last year

6.81 Cee Dee Lamb
6.5 Jalin Hyatt
6.46 Josh Downs
6.45 Zay Flowers
6.41 Jaxon Smith
6.4 Quentin Johnston
6.38 Cedric Tillman
6.36 Jordan Addison
6.35 Tyler Scott
6.3 Brandon Cooks

6.26 A.T. Perry
6.26 Marvin Mims Jr.
6.25 Tank Dell
6.24 Jonathan Mingo
6.22 Elijah Higgins
6.21 Jalen Tolbert
6.2 MIichael Gallup

6.17 Charlie Jones
6.16 CJ Johnson
6.16 Kayshon Boutte
6.1 Tre Tucker
6.0 Justin Shorter
6.0 Michael Wilson
6.0 Rashee Rice

Agreed, WR is a much bigger need than many want to admit. No one should assume that Cooks will be anything but solid. Gallup returning to pre-surgery level of play is still in question and Tolbert just didn't seem to have it, maybe he takes a step but unknown at this point.
Factor in big Mike now calling plays, which I think he will go much more west coast passing offense, and he knows that will need another dynamic WR to compliment Lamb.

This…one of my favorite responses is “Mahomes doesn’t need this many weapons.” Well yea, bc he’s arguably the most talented QB to ever step on the field. Also - it’s somewhat false as the Chiefs continue to churn the roster and pump resources into the WR room.

The addition of Cooks was a huge get and hasn’t made it as immediate if a need, but it’s 100% on the radar for an early round selection if a good player is available. Not a lot of #1 types but a lot of guys with high end #2 potential which warrants a top 2 round selection in todays NFL.

They like to be prepared for players that might drop.
- i.e. One of those 4 might drop to #58.

Mingo is likely 3rd round.

I think they really like Downs. And I think they see him as a guy that could be there in round 2. Maybe they take Avila round 1 and Downs round 2. May not be popular on this board, but seems like a real possibility with all the talk about how much they love Avila.
