Cowboys Team And Fans Seem Ready To Lose It

I'm a therapist and I work with trauma victims and a lot of abuse victims. When an abusive relationship is happening there is always something called the "screw it" point. We use a different word that "screw" but this a family forum. When the screw it point happens it means the abused person finally realizes they are being abused, stands up for the themselves and reacts in a manner the abuser isn't prepared for. That can consist of going no contact, calling the police and pressing charges, or becoming violent themselves. After the screw it point is hit the abused doesn't return to the abuser. They've have enough and realize life is better without the abuser.

Jerry and the fans are engaged in an abusive relationship. All the signs are there: false promises, times of hope, devaluation, no empathy, word salad. And earlier today was a bit of a mocking, "I got you and you can't leave statement " with the whole I'm not selling the team when asked about angry fans.

So I feel we are on the brink of the "screw it" point. This has the potential of getting ugly fast as the OP said. I am concerned it could get violent and I hope no players, refs, or other fans get hurt. I really hope fans don't show up to the game or turn it off before it gets any more aggressive than it already has. But I feel the OP is correct and the fans have been abused for 20+ years by this narcissist and they're at the "screw it" point. It can get bad.
Well said.

Would a simple "Jerry sucks" chant from the fans in the stands mean anything or would that just be childish?

A dead silent empty stadium would be so much better. The look on Jerry's face as he scans 80,000 empty seats would be priceless. I would even do PPV just to see it (but only as long as none of the money went to Jerry).

Yeah I don't think if 26 years hasn't broke them that a 27th will either.

Fans will be fans. Jerry really doesn't have to do anything to get them to buy in next year. Their fandom will take care of that. Replacing McCarthy with Payton will have them absolutely bouncing off the walls with Go Cowboys! for 2023.

So feel free to throw a season long temper tantrum that will amount to nothing. Jerry's not concerned with your feelings. He owns you and he knows it.

Except Payton will likely cost a 1st, so I'd actually be furious at that given he's no different to Mike.

I would call that well deserved. Who cares if it's childish?

The lack of post season success reached an unacceptable many many years go. Thinking fans are just going to continually take that is extremely flawed thinking.

It’s crazy that it’s taken this long to get here, but it makes sense.

The Dallas media is so Cowboys friendly that fans are usually kept on the hook; hyped up by BS and ready to spend.

There’s never been much pressure on the FO locally— at least not for an extended period of time.

But after 26 years, and failures with two franchise QBs and multiple HCs, there’s no amount of BS that provide cover for this organization, right now.

This makes it seem like, as with everything else these days, if people get violent, we're going to blame someone other than them. Instead of the "traumatic childhood ", "victim of circumstances ", or "rough environment ", they're going to claim that they were in an "abusive relationship". We used to call them sore losers.

Dude I completely agree. When things were thrown at Dak I thought to myself "this is bad". I agree we're there, I feel we were there after the 49er loss. Now I'm just hoping cooler heads prevail and no violence happens. I don't want that. To be honest what I would like is 100,000 people chanting "screw you Jerry" (or something to that affect) for an entire 3 hour game. Or all the stadium just empties out on national TV and humiliates him. As long as it's words and no objects being thrown, no fights and no one physically gets hurt.

But I do 100% agree with your post that we're there. If we get blown out Sunday things could get ugly. I hope it's safe ugly. That's what I'm stuck on. I just want safety.

One more point is I feel the fanbase is realizing it's Jerry and son. So why throw things at Dak. He's a lieutenant in the army of Jerry. Not a fan of Dak as a player but that's low and crappy. Just like throwing things at the refs. If fans want to embarrass Jerry then go for it, but please don't physically hurt anyone.
From what I heard, and the video I saw, I think two people threw towels at Dak. And that was because of his horrendous performance, not because of Jerry.

I'm not excusing Jerry's perpetual refusal to get the Hell out of the way, but you can't blame everything that happens and every poor performance on him.

But there are plenty of fans who are so emotional that signing a new, "better" coach is what they think is going to turn things around. Jerry's not stupid, he knows that'll appease the masses for a year or two.

He doesn't own me. The last time I spent money on anything Cowboys related was October 2, 2011 when they played Detroit and Romo threw 2 pick 6's. I had free tickets to the game, but I bought a beer. Hope Jerry enjoyed me buying one of his over priced drinks, because he will never see another penny from me.

It already worked for him once with the Parcels hire. But it only lasted until the cellphone video was leaked to the media.

So what is it you suggest? Do tell your special words of wisdom.
Stop watching. Stop posting. Stop following or supporting. Abandon the Cowboys and go find more peaceful ventures in life. Problem solved. You hurt Jerry better this way, plus you have peace of mind.

Sounds good?

Does it matter if you think it's good or bad? Clearly, this would be bad. Very bad. Sure sounds like you are looking forward to it, hence an emotional attachment to creating this thread.

Only hope for real change is if this seasons continues to be a total and complete embarrassment for Jerry. Ugly ugly losses, blowout losses and a terrible record. Top 10 draft pick would be great. Problem with that is Dak will probably come back sooner than later and will make the season respectable.

Really not interested in some 8-9 type middle of the road season. Sadly its probably what we are headed for.
